If this was all just a giant sit in, I would take the more seriously. If they were persistent enough at it as well, it would send a better message than this mass destruction. The bus boycotts were very successful and helped end segregation on buses (it took months to accomplish though, and lots of self discipline). Mass violence only deters people from the cause and makes things more polarizing.
