I dunno. Owning 8 stores is still pretty impressive, or are Americans so fucked in the head by scale that it's not considered a success unless it's a gigacorporation?
I suspect that's
exactly what's happened. Anyone who's quietly watched this on has seen blue cities and blue states basically lose the rule of law. And guess what? Vote for them and they'll pander to increasingly fragmented special interest groups and bring that riot-o-rama to a neighbourhood near you too! It's not even a creation of divisions by this point. Some folks who still likely will turn tend to turn to law and order when shit begins to groan and creak like this. Same happened in the UK, where the political chaos of the last three years and mockery from the largely London elites towards the rest of us saw those people smacked across the face with the ballot box.
In the West, violent revolution rarely leads to success. The only revolutions to really "succeed" were the American One (where the UK negotiated after a decade and rarely fought enthusiastically) and the Glorious Revolution, which wasn't even a revolution
per se but more of a careful series of legal wranglings.
There will be no refugees from Taiwan unless the PRC glitches out and actually invades, we're likely to see a move towards Taiwan as its own entity in the next decade or so and this is because the Chinese being born there increasingly do not see themselves as culturally Chinese. China's actions against Hong Kong has basically fucked the chances of the "one nation, two governments" lie they've been peddling to the Taiwanese in which they were supposed to use Hong Kong as an example that the system would work. Instead it's become the very obvious pathetic trick it is from the pollution goblins.
The UK's likely to hoover up a large chunk of Hong Kongers (and I for one welcome them very
very gladly should they come). The issue will be will we build them a city or spread them out like we've been trying and failing with other ethnic groups? Personally I'd love a New Hong Kong here in the UK and it's not like we've
not got the space for it. According to this article we'd need a 6 miles square block somewhere and that'd be fine.
