Our police carry batons and some kind of pepper spray. Very few are armed and the ones that are are subject to HUGE oversight. The concept of cops randomly shooting people does not exist in the UK. Any police shooting is news, and if it’s a shooting in error (like that dude on the tube, John Charles de menezes,) it’s a massive scandal. What BLM are rioting about does not exist in the UK.

My family hails from Napoli. Neapolitans are widely considered the niggers of italy. True that's Sicilians but that's an island. As far as the mainland goes, Neapolitans are as close to niggers as an Italian can get. Even when I have friends going to Italy for vacation I tell them to never wander into side streets and better yet don't even have a wallet on you. I've been very angry my entire adult life about the injustices of the US prison and policing system, and would welcome constructive discussions of how to reform them. This is not that. It is a cartoonishly astroturfed Democrat fanfic "grassroots" movement intended to spread rage, fear, and fuel partisan politics at the national level while doing jack shit at the state and local level where the majority of these issues arise.
The topic has become too toxic for any actual discussion of workable policy without social liquidation, so we just get screeching about abolishing the police and fantasizing about the army massacring peaceful-ish protestors instead of undoing the ravages of the war on drugs, reducing prison sentences for non-violent crime, dismantling "zero tolerance" policies, mandatory minimum sentences, three strikes laws, etc, and addressing poverty and community collapse.
I have much political common ground with the protestors regarding police reform and have for decades, but nothing good will come of this. Demanding unworkable feel good measures are a major part of how we got all these awful policies, and there's a good chance we're going to get a mix of tough-on-crime reforms due to the riots that weren't dealt with due to optics and race-baiting bullshit that ignores the root problems of police brutality.
You, and most dems, conflate disagreement on how to fix things, or any opposition whatsoever to the craziest slogans being shrieked, with thinking the status quo is good, because if you talk policy, you lose your wedge issue, and so does the GOP.

When i was in london is was kinda weird seeing so many cops out in the streets packing MP5's,in my part of the UK i never once seen a cop openly carrying a gun.
afaik when it comes to tasers its decided by regional command if they will give their officers tasers, they have to take specialist training programs to be issued them but its not certificated firearms training.
Hell even when they are used by the cops it often gets reported in the news,never-mind cops firing live rounds from firearms!
