The UK has the lowest policing killings of any major Western nation of its size as a percentage of its total population. The only other nation of comparable size that does so well is Japan.

So in many ways, as much as direct comparisons aren't entirely fair - the UK has got policing use of force to a good standard. So why are people protesting it in the UK? 66 million people, 500k die every year and last year 2 of them were killed by police. You're more likely to win the fucking lottery.

It does make me doubt these people care about reality.

The two that died this year one was a terrorist the other was some crazy with 2 knives who wouldn't go down despite being tased over and over. These people dont even have a clue.

the key difference here is that the 'religious right' were american conservatives at heart and thus they held free speech and free expression as sacred, and abhorred political censorship. these people never even made any serious attempts at cracking down on anything, the only censorship they even tried to engage in was laughably unimportant shit like putting "parental advisory: explicit content" stickers on rap music albums or forbidding GTA:SA sales to minors because of a sex mod.

I just got to say a couple things on this one. First, the "Parental advisory" stuff on music came from the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) an organization headed by Tipper Gore, the wife of Democrat Al Gore. Secondly, the violent video game hearings (Night Trap and Mortal Kombat stuff) were run by Joseph Lieberman and Herb Kohl, again both Democrats.

So there you have it. The two iconic "censorship" drives of the 90s, so typically associated with the religious right, were actually run by the Democratic Party.

the other side, however, doesn't give any fucks about freedom of speech. they know it's in the constitution, which prevents them from using state power for that purpose, but they have absolutely zero restraints when it comes to using non-state power to get the job done - corporations, academia, schools, entertainment, news, all of it.

the sad reality is that if the religious right had been as unrestrained as this back when they were in charge, if they had used all their available power to crack down hard on dissenters, then they would likely still be in power today.

It makes me cringe when i see people espouse that "hate speech" is not free speech and taking away peoples rights (like gun-ownership) is supposedly liberal and/or leftist. It's speech we don't like that needs to be protected the most if you believe in free speech. These people and their views are totally out of tune with LIBERALISM in the age of enlightenment. And groups named ANTI-FASCIST action partake in and encourage violence and say that people who are what they deem "nazi's" shouldn't exist or have rights. Doublespeak and hypocrisy is everywhere.

From the post, a Hong Kong dev created a surveillance site that alerts users with information from online police scanner stalkers. Adding alerts to the map requires a key to enter in data, yet I'm not sure how secure that is.
