I can't blame the police for abusing their power at this point. They're getting hate from all sides and even if they behaved properly, the media would portray them as villains.
Still, it's a lose/lose situation at this point, and there is no solution in sight. Things are only going to get worse.
The other option by that time was the Soviets and they were viewed by 'idealistic' young leftists as having sold out and lost their revolutionary fervor. All the atrocities and sheer incompetence of Mao's regime were of course ignored or whitewashed, these people actually view the Cultural Revolution as something to aspire to after all.

In some cities, for sure. The mayors who want to defund the police are idiots and their cities will become infested with gangs. But in America as a whole? I'm not sure. A lot of people are angry at lefties but can't speak up because of cancel culture. I think right wing Americans are getting sick of it and it's only a matter of time until their emotions boil over.
I doubt the commie "heroes" of that war will survive much longer than the the bourgeois that they kill. I had ancestors that fought for the Bolsheviks in the Revolution and after it was over, they were almost all purged. You don't want the same people that are willing to rise up and fight to stick around after the Revolution or else they might cause trouble. It's the same reason why Castro sent Che away after the Cuban revolution succeeded.
I asked that question a few pages back; it seems like for the most part the money seems to be going to grifters who will then blow the cash on anything but helping the community. The people donating and telling others to donate either don’t know or don’t care and just want the good boy points. And just to drive the point further, I can’t imagine how shop owners must feel that no one is helping them despite being some of the biggest victims of all this.

it's not going to grifters and corruption. it's going in the organisations war chest. they'll use it to recruit more activists, spread more propaganda, do more activism, etc.
They're defunding the police so they can replace them with new police that don't answer to the law, but to the party.
