I'm just trying to clarify something here because I get more and more confused with ST's antics as I continue to read this thread:
I have said this
multiple times at this point, but the one issue I have with Springtrapp's interpretation of otherkinism is that they assume that because they are kin with certain characters, they must have alters of said character. That is not what an otherkin is. If we're going off of Tumblr's usual interpretation of other/fictionkin, you'll see people describe it as them having a strong connection with a character, as if they are the character themselves.
So, say I'm kin to Dante from Devil May Cry. That means I feel like I'm Dante, or that I have a really strong connection with him. I'm a Dantekin! However, this does not mean Dante is one of my alternate "personalities". I
am Dante. Dante is not a separate imaginary friend/tulpa/alter in my mind. That's why you'll generally see fictionkin get really upset over people with the same kintypes following them. It supposedly invalidates their identity. In example, I knew of a Tumblr user that would become upset when people reblogged and tagged their art of RED Sniper from TF2 with "me" or "this is me"; they felt as if they had a strong connection to RED Sniper, and that they were RED Sniper themselves. So, in effect, they felt as if their identity was being stolen from them because they insisted that they were the "real" RED Sniper. It's a bit baffling, but I've been on Tumblr for years. I'm practically desensitized to this sort of thing. Hell, continuing on with my example, I could be kin to multiple people if I wanted. I could be kin to Dante, Tom Nook, and Spike the Dragon, all at the same time, but that doesn't mean I have alternate personalities in which I pretend to be any of them.
I feel that Springtrapp is using their misunderstanding of otherkinism to play pretend and roleplay. However, I do think that this is a coping method too. I don't doubt that Springtrapp has mental issues. They're using this whole alter/multiple personality thing to help alleviate their mental pains. I understand why they do it. I don't blame them, mental illness sucks. I don't know the extent of their illness, but clearly, it makes things rather difficult for them.
TLDR; Springtrapp isn't an otherkin and loves to pretend they have DID. Have they ever claimed to have had DID in the past, by the way?
It's literally just roleplaying. She finds characters she likes, roleplays them until she gets bored, and drops them -- it's not even an unhealthy pattern, just one that's uncomfortable to dress up as representing her psychological/spiritual nature instead of just "I like fandom RP but I get bored easily."
Yeah, see, it really is just roleplaying. It's not even that they're an otherkin, they're just roleplaying as characters they can relate to.
