I was talking to some normie colleagues (one is a gay guy) and he was all "of course she's right, I don't know what people are upset about", so I assume he never met a troon before.
There was a ResetEra thread about Rowling being a TERF (because of course there was) and someone was saying how she was lying about how troons were arguing that biological sex isn't real.
And then one of them answered that it isn't.
Most people really, truly don't understand what a lot of these people actually believe. Legitimately, the vast majority of the population doesn't see anything of the troon narrative other than the lies, the sob stories, the fake science and the all-consuming transphobia that is blamed for every thing that troons experience. Even though it's yet another lie based on bad information, the idea that 41% of all troons kill themselves benefits them, as does every breakdown, every suicide, every time they don't get what they want. Because it preserves their eternal victim narrative, and that lets them get away with, if not literal murder, certainly literally some horrible sexual offences in some cases.
JK Rowling, like South Park and their troon sport episode, like most of anyone who calls out this insanity and tries to actually spread information, not lies, had to couch it in terms of 'it's just a small fraction, maybe not even the real transgender people who are the problem, I truly believe in the existence of mostly good troons' - the usual spiel. I'm impatient for more people to reach the level of this thread, which has steadily suggested to me that those genuine, honest sufferers of gender dysphoria who aren't lunatics and assholes are the actual minority, especially these days. Actual time around gendertrenders has only emphasised that.
But most people need to reach that first level of skepticism. To understand what a troon 'vagina' looks like, or how few MtFs get SRS, or the impossibility of just switching puberty on and off, or what self-identification and 'no gatekeeping' will actually mean for women's shelters, and sports, and prisons.
I'm up for anything that encourages peak trans in people. I think this essay, and the troon responses to it, will get a few more people there. And all the while troons and their handmaidens are going to continue to bully and silence their opposition, and then wonder how people could vote against their wishes and keep being transphobic.
