Why are so much anime related studios getting in on this? Even Toei is butting in.

My best guess is that this is just "cover your own ass" PR statements so they can keep the woke crowd in charge of places like Funimation and Crunchyroll off their backs and continue to sell the series they know do well in North America.

Especially since Funimation is more or less under the control of Sony's woke as fuck American branch and Crunchyroll is an honest to god subsidiary of Warner Brothers/AT&T, as is Toonami.

Same reason why CD Projekt Red was so quick to virtue signal despite their history and overall stances, it's lip service to keep from getting cancelled.

Plus, a lot of their English-language Twitter accounts are probably based in the United States as it is, and they're probably hiring some college dangerhair or bearded soyboy since they're as cheap and expendable as Indian call center guys but are already fully proficient in English.

Mostly American licensors and dubbers like Funimation and Crunchyroll which is pretty predictable but then there was a retweet by Shonen Jump. Not sure if we’re talking American Jump or Japanese Jump but it’s still bizarre that anime is getting dragged into this at all.

I think it's the American Shonen Jump. The print magazine is gone, but I think it's still active as an online publication and they do a lot of cross-promotion with Crunchyroll and guys like Viz and Funimation as I recall.

That's the most overtly I've ever seen them attack the definition of words before. They went straight for the goddamn dictionary. That's how you know they're confident. Then again, racism had just about already lost any meaning it had. This is just a sort of hollow affirmation.

One of the things that strikes me is that the new definition has a circular flaw in it. Namely, it uses the word it's defining to define itself. Using the second definition, the phrase "Racism is a political system that utilizes racism in its core functioning." is a valid sentence according to the galaxy-brained woke scolds at Merriam-Webster. A word should never have itself in the definition. That would be like saying "Geology: 1: The study of geological processes" is a valid definition instead of "Geology: 1: The study of earth materials and processes". The second definition explains what the word means in simple English without using it, thus conveys more meaning and is better than the first.

Moreover this will only serve to agitate and alienate Joe Public even further as it both moves the goalposts for what "racism" is while simultaneously denying Joe Public a way to say "that's retarded, stop trying to trick me". Most reasonable people will see definition three - "racial prejudice or discrimination" - as the true meaning of the term and will rightly say that racism doesn't exist anymore outside of individuals and enclaves.

If we really wanted to get nit-picky about this definition, then the progressive stack and all descendant bullshit from critical theory and intersectionalism is racist because of the first definition's bit about "primary determinant of human traits". If being born black is disadvantaging and born white is privileged then that's an attribution of a human characteristic (societal success) to race. That's an assumption of character based on ethnicity and thus by the first - and thrid - definition is inherently racist.

TL ; DR
Merriam-Webster's editorial team huffs glue and the retards that want to use this brave new definition as a cudgel will still get people citing the dictionary definition as a counter argument to their bullshit. They can't even alter history correctly.
