While I agree with the first half of your paragraph, I do not fully agree with the latter. The neck thing was in fact out of bounds and improper. That he needed a hold is not in debate to anyone with the facts but the coroner report itself disagrees with your assertion that the police followed protocol properly. The knee to the neck did have part in his death, how much of a part is probably unknowable due to the fact the guy was actively ODing on the spot.Floyd was being restrained because he was in a state of excited delirium. The original call that brought the cops out was not because of the fake $20, but rather because Floyd's erratic behavior was concerning enough that it caused the cashier to notice that the bill was fake. That and the fact that this maniac was driving a car got the police involved. So, when the police tried to take him into custody and he started flopping around like a fish and freaking out, they did a 3 man pin to hold him still so that he wouldn't hurt himself or anyone else. While he was being pinned, his heart gave out and he died. The police followed protocol and waited for the EMT to arrive and pronounce him dead.
The more video and audio that comes out, the more that these officers are absolved of wrongdoing. There is a reason why Ellison is keeping the bodycam footage away from the public.
We can say the guy was probably going to die anyway, without also defending a cop fucking up.
