Here is the truth of police work in america. Cops don't have to serve and protect. They do it because they care. But there is absolutely no piece of legislation actually forcing you to protect anyone. In fact as lawkiwis are happy to point out the Supreme motherfucking Court itself has ruled in the past that protecting the citizenry is in fact not part of the cop's job description and no one can force them to do it. In fact, no one can really force them to uphold the law at all.
What is a cops job then? A cops job is to come after the fact, write a report, give you a slip, and go on his merry way. If a cop saw you get repeatedly stabbed and just stood there watching and sipping coffee, then happily waved the murderer goodbye, and just noted on his notebook a report, he'd have done his job just as well as if he had stopped the murder. This is the current situation in america according to the law.
So why do cops ever stop crimes? Long story short, they do it because they want to. They do it because they THINK it's part of being a cop, that is their PERSONAL opinion and technically they have the authority to do it if they want, but they have no OBLIGATION to do it. Or in other words. The american system is run entirely on goodwill. The only reason a policeman ever does what most consider to do the job of the police, is because they have goodwill. If they had none, they'd be free to just ignore such "obligations" and do their base duty, just like a public servant that spends most of the day on the coffee machine chatting with his coworkers lazily.
This however is not the end of the issue. All we've established so far is that cops don't have reasons not to not do their job. We still have to answer if cops have any reasons to do their job, and if cops have any reasons to not do their job.
So let's get on the second. And the list is huuuuuuuuge. On the CHAZ thread the video "seattle is dying" was linked. And let me share it here:
As you can see on this video, cops have in fact already stopped doing their duty in seattle long ago, simply because the punishment for crimes was so small that there was literally no point. After all, arrests are a risky procedure that can devolve into violence. So why increase the number of arrests when you know they're just gonna go through a revolving door straight back into the shop for round two of robbery. It makes no sense, and the cops realized it, and decided not to pointlessly add risks. I can't blame them really.
And now we're also seeing it in atlanta. Cops are now constantly persecuted, every single time a police operation goes wrong in any way its all over the news and corrupt DAs ask for their heads, every fucking day they endure attacks both during the job and away from it, every fucking time lawmakers are on TV its to claim they're gonna restrict their functions further.
Every arrest is a high stress situation where everything can go wrong, and american law is so crooked that even if the cop does everything right he's still gonna have their face, name and adress shared for public lynching, be incarcerated for months on end and demonized, his family will be persecuted, his life will be ruined, and no one will pay for having done so.
Meanwhile state after state tries to defund, cut, or straight up abolish the police force and keeps putting more and more legislative, bureaucratic and economic roadblocks on their way, constantly discouraging them from ever acting.
So tell me. Knowing that cops have no reason to ever incarcerate a person. Knowing that their job is just to write a fucking record to hand to the lawyers and sip on coffee while they wait for the criminal to end. And knowing how quickly a cop can loose everything if they choose to actually arrest anyone. Why would a cop ever care anymore? They already walked away. So... Why would they ever come back?
Because if I was in their situation. I wouldn't. I'd sit there and watch you bleed to death while writing in my notebook and be a happy little pencil pusher, nothing but a cog in the machine. Because saving your life simply isn't worth the risk anymore. That's the reality of the current situation.
Media keeps blasting cops and proclaiming that american cops kill more people than european cops do. Yes, they do. But remember what I told you about sharks and dogs? America has a crime rate that is off the charts compared with most of europe, and specially a violent crime rate that is absolutely abhorrent. American policement perform way more arrests per capita than any european country. And every one of those arrests can end in tragedy. If you note the number of people american cops kill not per capita but per arrest, as I proved on prior messages, it is on par with europe, which is to say it is practically a statistical anomaly, too small to even opperate with. And yet due to that one statistical anomaly we can barely account for, a number so low that it would be scientifically permissible to say it is due to instrumental error, your press once more has launched a campaign of destruction against policemen, and your lawmakers have been happy to launch themselves at them and claw with reckless abandon.
This is how america ends. It won't be China taking you out. There won't be any wars. Policemen will simply see the bomb, sip their coffee, and let the timer run out. Because they will have no reason to save you.
