I stand by my current assessment: leave the cities, protect your neighborhood, let the public spaces burn. This isn't the boogaloo. But if Trump loses and similar riots break out next year, then we're looking at potential catastrophe. Because the left's rioters won't feel constrained by the threat of armed federal forces, and may try to advance out of the downtowns. So the armed right will feel more need to fight the rioters, or maybe even counter-riot. And the government institutions of force will be in the hands of people willing to crush one side but not the other.

Donald Trump's presence may actually be preventing civil war, and that is some rich irony.

The problem with the American right is that they're unified by issues and Trump instead of a collective identity. The UK has the most organized right in the western world thanks to soccer clubs. The problem is that British conservatism is retarded.

You can rally them to guns, abortion and a Trump rally but standing together for a shared identity does not work.

Aside from the tampering with/erasing history answers you've already received, there's also the process of testing boundaries.

Much like a toddler will smack a parent, or throw a temper tantrum, these idiots ripping down statues are learning where the boundaries are. Much like an actual two year-old, they will push and push and push, upping their antics and observing when mommy and daddy are finally going to step in and make it stop. Every time these assholes knock over a statue and don't get punished for it, they now start to wonder what else they can do- hence, the escalation from "oh, we're just attacking Confederate statues" to "let's rip down George Washington". There were no consequences for the Confederate statues, so they said "Hey, maybe we can get away with Washington!"

It's why it's so important that there be consequences to destructive or dysfunctional behavior- for children and adults (who act like fucking children). If there aren't, the behavior will not only repeat, but also probably get worse.

They're just going to keep going until someone draws a line and says "Okay, that's enough."

It's getting easier and easier to take time for myself and feel less hopeless about this shit (thanks to going outside, playing vidya, having fun with various hobbies) but I still find myself getting told by family to "try to be less cynical" about everything related to this cluster fuck. Guess the blackpill's smaller, but still there nonetheless. Anyone else feel this way, even when trying your hardest to be optimistic?

I'm lucky as my folks see things the way i do, and it's almost always been that way. I would suggest just nod and go along with whatever useless platitudes they are saying, at least until this shit starts to fade. And it will fade.

That's the thing about this sort of thing, most of the time it's not out in the open like this. We really are seeing a glimpse of the craziness in the world, without it being filtered through some globohomo news source. It will fade, it will recess, it will turn back at some point. My uncle told me this is nowhere near what the dnc was in 68 with the riots adn shit. I think hes wrong, i think it's spread out more so it doesn't seem as violent. BUT my point is, this shit will fade guys, whatever you do don't live and breathe this shit constantly.
