Valve monetizes mods (With Bethseda Launcher and Open Beta for Modding Released, Possible Return?)

This is how steam is handling the situation.

One of my favorite games currently is FTL, and all mods are basically completely off-Steam. Since the game data files are all xml anyway, there is a mod manager that just applies them as patches to the main data file.

I'll try to update this thread often, one at a time.

Also, the user reviews for the Skyrim game managed to go from "Overwhelming Positive" to "Very Positive" as a result of the flooding of negative reviews.

EDIT: THE MOST HELPFUL REVIEWS FOR SKYRIM V ARE ALL NEGATIVE ON THE VERY FRONT PAGE!

You really can't trust anyone, can you?
looks like the corruption in games goes deeper than corrupt journalism.
We need to let it all burn down and start anew
8chan's /v/ board has been asking "industry crash when?" before the monetized mods. One ironic thing I find is this: Gabe Newell called Windows 8 a catastrophe, saying it is a threat to the open nature of PC gaming. How can he not see the monetized mods as a threat to the open nature of PC gaming since the paywall itself can let greed get in the way?

Another day, another chuckle as the skyUI guys still keep flailing about trying to defend there selves. Is funny to me.

Also, Its been pointed out that the big "BUY MODS NOW" banner on the steam storefront has been removed. Weird seeing as valve usually does not do anything on the weekend. It might be the optimist in me, but maybe they are slowly taking their heads out of their posteriors and realizing shit needs fixing?

Gaben will make console peasants of us all. A sad day for the PC Master Race.

Maybe people should have not hyped Gabe Newell even if it was tonge in cheek? Then again, I'm really surprised in how clumsy they managed this, most of the time I believed Valve did know how not to burn the good will from fans.

Remember when Steam sold games that worked? Games that were finished? Games that you didn't have to pay for to beta test?
Now we have shit like decade old buggy games, greenlit crap that doesn't work, early access games that never live up to their claims, games made with MSpaint with hardly no gameplay, movies by hipster douches that make no sense whatsoever and now paid mods.
If this keeps up, I'm going to dust off my old board games and start playing those instead.

tbh honest i'd rather pay for a mod than hipsters who just talk about crap
