Anyone have any "local" news from the past week or so? Everything that spread even a little outside of a small containment zone in my state got immediately shut down by counter protesters and police, and even then the actual turnout for protesters was extremely tiny in every case. There were rumors of an attempted autonomous zone that no one actually showed up to try.

Then you have that story in Ohio where the counterprotesters outmatched the protesters 2 to 1 or something in a town of less than 2k people. This whole thing is really just in major cities and every time they try to make it spill over it's met with a resounding "no" by the communities, even if our politicians have gone into hiding.

I'll admit, a lot of this political apathy in my country can be traced back to colonialism. Not in the way that most would think tho. Because in my country, our versions of Washington and Jefferson didn't win, they were betrayed by their own to appease the colonizers. Shot like dogs cause they didn't want to surrender.

My country was built on the ideals of cowardice and appeasement of higher powers. Ask any Filipino you know if they're proud of their country, and I guarantee most will say no and whoever says yes is a fucking liar or is delusional. That's why we all cling so hard to Manny Pacquiao, why if anything Filipino is mentioned in popular culture we get excited, cause as a country we have nothing to take pride in.

That's why it infuriates me to see you Americans bow down to these people and let them do what they want. Cause that's one step closer to having a population like mine, where no one really gives a shit about poverty, corruption, or people being murdered by the government. We think as long as it doesn't affect your income and you still have a roof over your head, it isn't your problem.

Well, most "normal" people probably feel the same way. My boss was sick of the COVID stuff a week into it and now everyone's social media is overloaded with BLM. This year you can't just go to work, grill out or go fishing without being reminded of how awful everything is.

I don't know how Americans can think their country is shit. It's one of the freest societies I've ever seen, almost to it's detriment as seen with these riots, but you guys can do a lot of things that are impossible in other countries.

Sure there's corruption, bad cops, and shady businessmen exploiting people for money, but that's a problem everywhere, and in a lot of places it's a hell of a lot worse.

I'd rather have your police force than mine for example. In the Philippines, being a cop isn't a respected profession. Not one person I've met likes cops, even people with cops in the family, cause pretty much ever cop is dirty here.

Either they stop you on bullshit traffic violations to squeeze you for a bribe at their best, and at their worst their killing people for possession and plant a gun on their body after the fact to make it look justified. There have been cases of policemen working with gangs as hired guns and enforcers. Only reason law and order hasn't collapsed yet here is cause the politicians make sure to keep that shit on the downlow and not interfere with normies.

So don't worry too much man, cause it can be so much worse.

I've heard people say that human beings are hardwired to seek religion. I don't know if that's true or not but it would make sense given the almost pareidolia like response of these people to see idols of worship in almost anything they come across that is spectacular or forceful enough.

Religious thought and systems of belief arose across the globe in totally isolated groups of people. And, in places without formal religions, spiritual/metaphysical beliefs seem to be ubiquitous, and across the entire globe. We have not encountered too many militant atheist tribesmen out there.

I don't see an explanation for that if we aren't hardwired for spirituality. The existence of autistic outlier atheists is no refutation.

I don't know relevant this is to the topic, but one thing that I've never gotten about the African American community is that they always act like they "own" the words "nigger/nigga/negro/negress", etc and that only they can say it. All while for some reason, no one else can and its seen as a derogatory swear.

If those words is so "offensive" and "racist" and is a "horrible reminder" of "400 years of oppression", why the hell do they keep saying it so nonchalantly among each other? Why not just stop saying that the word altogether instead of dropping it in every mixtape, conversation and tweet they say? We're getting close. But President Trump is playing a dangerous game. He's letting this simmer until more than just his base beg for him to stop it. But that window is only open for a short while. I don't think that window is open yet. But when it does open (and it will be soon) it will close almost immediately and he will have missed his chance to smash these rioters with the support of the larger public behind him. At that point he will be seen as acting too little too late.

But with Seattle finally getting sick and tired of CHAZ and with the police moving in and stopping a statue toppling as opposed to allowing it to happen, I think we'll see a larger move happen soon. Maybe this week. Or maybe local authorities finally get their heads on straight and stop this themselves.

A modern Civil War won't be fought like it was 160 years ago. It'll be a long drawn out guerrilla-style affair that might not ever be settled unless somebody gets launch codes.
