I started this thread when it was new, got bored with the back and forth with Kelly and left. But I just read the entire thing, and I should have stuck with it, it’s such a ride! While she’s not the worst poor little Behçet patient ever, she’s gotta be a top munchie. How many have actually ripped themselves to pieces for attention?
I have a strong stomach and nothing phased me, even the nerve thing, which even made me laugh. But that rip down her leg that she said went through to the other side, with the crackly sound did skeeve me a bit.
It’s interesting that the Canadian doctors let her continue with open wounds like that, being in a home environment, even knowing she did it to herself. I’m pretty sure she’d have been treated again in the US. At least with another wound vac but probably even with another graft. As an example, our deathfat Chance who ate himself into kidney and wound failure several times, and who had to relearn to walk twice, was treated-without insurance. When he died, he was still seeing a wound care specialist and had a wound vac. He was eating pizza in his last days. He was non-compliant and docs knew that but I guess they felt they had to do something. Even though they won’t give a liver to an alcoholic, they don’t not treat people who have psychiatric problems and if the drunk can stay sober for only six months, they go on the list. So it’s interesting that they seemed to watch her legs deteriorate and seemingly did nothing, even though any treatment would have been futile. I don’t know what they could have done, but having her go in every other day for cleaning and checking when they first started to be damaged after the graft would be a minimum, along with psych.
Not making a judgment, just something I noticed. Maybe Canada has the right idea, maybe I’m wrong about the US and they’d have left her to pick too..two cases certainly don’t give the entire picture.
That said, Kelly is the most unreliable of unreliable narraters, so it’s possible-even likely-they wanted to do more to help and she refused.
Anyway, here we are. I don’t think at this point, with bone showing and a big chunk of leg getting ready to fall off, that there is anything they can do for her aside from amputation. Looks like she’ll never really walk safely again anyway, so best to get on with it, get her a “custom” wheelchair, and let her decide what disease she has next.
Unbelievable, the steps these Munchies go to for attention. Why they feel safe and cared for in hospitals, when regular people know they are impersonal institutions and want to escape ASAP is beyond my understanding.
