You would think that his wife improving so much would make him happier. The happiest I've seen him is when he thought Heather wasn't going to make it. Now that it looks like she will actually pull through, he's in a pissy mood. Really makes you think, doesn't it?

New to this cow but recently saw him spacking off at les Terves on Twitter and so I have now read the intro and the most recent few pages on this thread.
Those poor kids. Do they know their “other Mommie” spreads his asshole open online for loose change??
How shit is their father to leave them in that situation?

The financial counselors probably mentioned that to apply for financial assistance with the bill, you need to prove your income, and kindly suggested to Zach that he submit his last three paystubs ASAP with the appropriate forms. There might have been a raised eyebrow when he explained that he is too smart and talented for a job. Cue meltdown.

Either that or he's checking out some more ass pictures as a coping mechanism.

I know she doesn't really deserve it, but I do feel sympathy for Heather. And I will give her credit that she at least is a hard worker and has provided for her family. So she isn't without some merit. She just has really, really bad taste in men and zero self-esteem. I hope that part of her recovery involves psychotherapy. They could give her some good advice about how to reduce the stress in her life.

One thing I don't see anyone talking about much yet is that this is pretty much the worst time of the year to get sick in a major hospital.

The new crop of graduates is out in full force, and there is statistical evidence that quality of care is lower and complication rates from a wide range of procedures higher at this time of year. As a nurse friend recently posted:

And this year is probably worse than most, since the new grads have been doing online-only work due to coronavirus. So far, it sounds like Heather's care has been good, but all it takes is some noob idiot failing to notice something basic and she could be really fucked.

Yeah, I followed a bunch of doctors a while back so I could get research updates from people who know what they’re talking about. My timeline for the last two weeks has been little but them welcoming in the fresh, clueless meat to their programs.

All things aside, I am glad that Heather is getting better, and that her mother is taking a more involved role with Heather's recovery. Can you imagine Zinnia handling the final arrangements?

That's more action than Heather ever saw alive!

Guys, he totally can't get a job because he has to stay home and help Heather with physical therapy. He would totally get a job, but she needs him.

I wonder if the reason why Heather wanted Zach there before visiting hours is because that's when they keep trying to ask uncomfortable questions about how things are at home. Like asking if there is anything she wants to discuss that she feels she can't really talk about with her partner in the room ...

I'm going to be extraordinarily charitable to Zinnia and say she "can't" get a job because she would rather look out for Heather while she recovers. However - Zinnia, if you are reading this - once Heather recovers enough to go home, you'd better start applying. Even if you work in a shitty retail job, I'm sure Heather would really appreciate the extra support.

(Small powerlevel) I worked in a shitty retail job after struggling through various internships. I did not make much, but I managed to accumulate some decent savings as a financial cushion. If something terrible happened to anyone in my family, those savings could give them some small but worthwhile support.

It's not too late, Zinnia. Even if you don't have any savings, you could still help Heather and the kids out by making some money for them. I still believe you have some decency left, but I think myself an optimistic fool for doing so. Make me the happiest man on earth who was proven wrong.

There’s no reason to not be looking for a job. If Zach is able to spend all day with Heather at the hospital, someone is watching the kids. One of the kids is almost 18, anyways and could easily watch his brother. Regardless, their income is currently negative. Their landlord and grocery don’t care about Heather’s health. They should start looking at food pantries and other options if for no other reason than kids.
Yeah, Zach, a whole lot of people are out of work. Guess what? That means you should really be pounding the pavement looking for a job since you’re competing against high school graduates and formerly employed people.
I know you’re banking on a lottery winning gofundme but it’s just not going to happen. You have no idea how high that hospital bill is going to be and how quickly the monthly expenses are going to add up without Heather’s income. You should be getting your driver’s license and a job yesterday because you’re setting yourself up to be in a tiny apartment with invalid Hagrid, two kids, and no private bathroom to do your dildo movies.

I hope he realizes Heather's mom is going to make him ACTUALLY CARE FOR HIS DISABLED WIFE if he's getting a check to do so. Adult protective services is going to take a very dim view of him collecting a check to be her carer and then neglecting her needs in favor of ass-stuffing party time.
