Rockwell was a Nazi Larper.

LOOK at the swastika on the top of his house.
Rockwell was pretty cringe in his own right, especially with his anti-Catholic sentiments that were too in line with KKK redneck traditionalist faggotry than anything the OG Nazis believed in
At the same time, Rockwell was a lot more well-spoken and intelligent than Richard Spencer, James Mason, or the traditionalist faggots on /pol/, but again that's a criminally low bar to clear.
The American Nazi Party probably glowed even back in the 1950's and 1960's, but I'd say that had more to do with them being one of the original batch of targets for COINTELPRO to infiltrate alongside the KKK, Nation of Islam, Black Panthers, Students For A Democratic Society, Young Patriots, etc.
Seriously, the problem with Nazism is that WWII more or less fully discredited it.
Communism was more or less fully discredited by the Cold War or at least should have been.
Now it lumbers on as more of a zombie kept propped up by legacy KGB infiltration in the media and academia that became self-perpetuating and academia and also likely by Chinese backing since the United States, the only country that can stand up to them economically or militarily.
Honestly, 1991 was for Communism what 1945 was for Nazism and Fascism, but the difference is that the commies in the West don't fully realize it.
Most of the college communists in the Millennial and Early Zoomer generations weren't around for the Cold War, or at most, were in early grade school when the Soviet Union fell in the case of the Early Millennials. A lot of them didn't fully realize they were being indoctrinated when they got to college, and they were also resentful of the Religious Right that was the dominant specter of their childhood and adolescent years.
Then comes the Great Recession and the mountains of college debt with worthless degrees and they think that abolishing capitalism will solve their problems.
A lot of this "Current Year" SJW shit is the direct result of Occupy Wall Street's implosion around 2012 or so.
The movement sprang up organically in 2011, and while it was decentralized, it spoke to people from all sorts of ethnic, cultural, religious, or political backgrounds. It leaned liberal but you also had libertarian and "South Park Republican" types who hated the neocons and the Obama-style corporate neoliberals. The leftist hipsters and punk rock socialists didn't become the dominant clique until near the end of the original Occupy protests.
I honestly think it got co-opted and subverted by corporations and the glow spooks so it would self-destruct and spiral into literal commie garbage as opposed to the initial goals of financial reforms and anti-cronyism
