The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The Woke-Off continued on Twitter yesterday, as ND's favorite critic made a comment and Troy Baker got triggered.

I may think that all gaming journalists are smug pretenious assholes, but Troy has made Schreier look humble by Troy trying to own him with a quote. The first tweet was a generalised statement, showing how truely butthurt Troy is. Shame, I respect his work though.
TANGENT:
Why the fuck are they tearing down TR's statues? He was one of the most powerful presidents of our modern era unless these asshats can't differentiate anyone with a mustache from automatically assuming they were some slave owning southern general.

TR was from New York for godssake.
The riots were never truely about equality of black lives. Millions of dollars in damages were caused. Racial tension heightened. Black neighbourhoods destroyed. The "protesters" never wanted equal treatment from police, they wanted power. Why you think CHAZ happened?

The same reason Joel got screwed over probably.

Dorohedoro, better than TLOU 2 in every way, also a revenge story.

I have no idea why people are masturbating over this fucking AWFULLY told story of revenge. There are so many better ones out there and people and just whimpering and whining and shilling that this shit is good. If you like this game, you're really pathetic.
tbh dishonored/dishonored 2 did revenge story far better

because they leave exactly how violent the player is up to the player, including whether or not you murder the conspirators or leave them with their lives, but broken. neil wants you to feel bad about murdering that dog though.

A few more thoughts from the folks over at TV Tropes:

"Is the game even trying to guilt players? They attempt to portray the violence as "real", grizzly, horrifying and depressing. They don't want the player to have fun killing enemies, which they arguably failed to do. They humanize the enemy so when Ellie kills them regardless, you question what Ellie is doing. The WLF gets humanized because Ellie is the aggressor here: she came to Seattle to kill some of them, and the WLF are defending themselves from the wrath of a group from Jackson."

"I can't help but think that a lot of the people calling for Ellie to go to the dark side just want it because she'd kill Abby as a result."

"The ending is a Bittersweet Ending because Ellie gets closure on Joel's death and knows she's done what he would have wanted. Is it worth more than Dina and her baby? Honestly, I'd say yes. At least to Ellie."

"1. Ellie has plenty to live for. She got her closure. She's got Tommy. She's got Jackson. She's alive and her entire life ahead of her. It seems pretty ableist losing a couple of fingers means she's got nothing to live for.

2. Abby lost, at last count: her entire faction, her dog, her best friend, her other best friend/lover, Lev's sister, and was fucking crucified. Why are people acting like her life is so damn good?

Maybe I would feel more if I was overly invested in the Dina/Ellie relationship but it's not like Dina is the last LGBT woman on Earth."

"I don't what could have been done to improve the ending but turning Ellie into villain isn't it. The only thing it offers is catharsis of killing off Abby and that just isn;t worth it no matter my issues with the character."

"People will bring up how Lev suffers for being an LGBT character, and how it's unfair that Abby, a straight, cis character, gets to survive with something she cares about intact while Ellie, an LGBT character, has to make do with nothing. But in order to change that and have Ellie fuck over Abby, she would also have to fuck over Lev, an LGBT character, even more."

"Abby gets to live with Lev because she chose Lev over revenge. Twice. Meanwhile, Ellie lost Dina because she chose revenge over Dina. Abby made the right decision and and Ellie made the wrong one, and they are awarded and punished accordingly."

The fact that good things happen to people that do good things shows to me, the story is not nearly as grim as they imagine it. People just really, really cannot deal with the fact that Abby spared Ellie three times, can they?

"One thing I think was a mistake is the Race Lift of Abby. They should have kept her as the daughter of a black man. Losing Laura Bailey would have been a shame but there's plenty of good black voice actresses who could have used the work."

"Anyway, I think the game's story is awesome and I'm glad. It's a tragedy and that's what makes it good. It's like people would like Hamlet to end with him killing everyone then going, "I AM KING!""

Well Ellie spared Abby from the cross. Something with significantly more symbolism than a troon kid begging a rampaging roidbeest not to murder a pregnant woman who had nothing to do with daddy's justifiable homicide. Things that make you go hmmmm.... 🤔

Abby cares about Abby. Full stop. She started this ball rolling. Had she taken a different path in life, maybe studying medicine to honor her father for example, her life would have not been marred by even more tragedy. The death of Abby's father should be something we are given an opportunity to sympathize with from her perspective. Instead we care nothing about NPC surgeon, who doesn't even look like the same guy now.

It's easy to see the character assassination of Ellie. Abby is brand new and therefore there is nothing older to go on. We judge her via her actions in TLOU2 and aren't really given any reason to care about her. She is just a terrible person.

Earlier in the thread someone said that the surgeon was not black. The scene just has bad lighting. I wonder if there's a rip of the model so we can see that more clearly.

I don't know why characters have to be voiced by the same race as said character. But this is current year. Just seems silly to me since polygons are not real people.

So it's ableist to say Ellie's life is ruined because she is now missing fingers? Wel isn't Cuckman being ableist for assuming someone with a hand disability can never ever play guitar when that has been proven false with real world examples?

This game is so fucking bad I dusted off this account, Jesus Christ. I swear defending this requires you to have more fungi in the brain than the zombies do.

Props to the member who mentioned Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. I went through that game recently and had the same thoughts. Silas's target becomes a different, honest man, and the game lets you make the call on what he deserves without punishing you if you decide to kill him other than a darker but fitting ending.

This game kicks both Abby and Ellie in the stomach, but Abby is allowed to get up and walk away while Ellie keeps getting kicked while she's down despite doing "the right thing" and "breaking the cycle" (which is stupid bullshit the retards defending this keep peddling. This game already established that any random NPC can be the parent of a roided up Terminator ready to tee off your skull, and Ellie scored a blood river large enough to power the fucking Jacksonville dam).

And like one of the memes that was posted, this ending could have been made just the slightest bit better by having Ellie flip the guitar over and start practicing how to play with her other hand, But no. Doctor Uckmann brains 100 must systematically seek and destroy any glimmer of good and hope for the surviving cast of the original game, because fuck you for wanting nice things.

EDIT: by the way, Ghost Trick's main antagonist is a cruel asshole who's driven by revenge but that game makes you empathize with him in 10 minutes, something TLOU2 can't do for Abby with 20+ hours

I don't think the franchise can be saved. Maybe if that rumored director's cut has an alternate ending where Ellie just leaves Abby to rot on that cross and walks away. But methinks that won't ever happen. Cuckman can't let his pet roid rager die.

If we are supposed to think Abby larned anything from being spared a crucifiction or an execution at Ellie's hand I am greatly doubting that.

Let's just hope that TLOU3, if it comes to pass, takes place elsewhere with new characters. Abby is a failure. Lev is there for the sake of diversity. His backstory could be more interesting. But current year states that he is a "precious transboi uwu" and assuming that he is pretending to be a boy just to escape being forced into marriage with a dirty old pedo is transphobic. Never mind that child marriages are a very real and very horrific epidemic. We need our token tranny.

I think that some old queen NPC would have been a better way to do it and shoehorn in some virtue signalling dialog like with Dina and her trek through the synagogue.

You forgot that Dorohedoro legit has a trans character:

Dorohedoro, better than TLOU 2 in every way, also a revenge story.

Because, going by the manga, its got at least like 4 more fucking seasons to resolve everything. Its also weird as fuck, with the manga having a MASSIVE amount of nudity and violence (extreme violence), which I'll have no idea how they're going to translate. Entertainment is for pussies these days.

That character also looks like a woman. If real troons could use magic they would look like that in a heartbeat.

I think it speaks very strongly of the mentality these people have if they are willing to gush over a highschool fanfic level plot just because there are lesbians, a tranny and a testosteroni with meatballs.

So, Druckmann retweeted this.
Feels like he tries to justify his writing (or rather Abby) with this.

"Unresolved issues" Am I misreading this?

Wait why? Why do characters need to end a story with a feeling like they didn't fully achieve something? Are happy or fulfilled endings just taboo or something? I always saw characters that go through tragedy and end up with a positive ending at least somewhat inspiring because it made me think for at least a moment "Yeah, I can get through my own issues just like them."

Why is just pure gritty misery a requirement for good writing to these pretentious fucks? I can maybe see if it was a series that you know you'll the character again, even then you can make them satisfied and have something else happen, but if you just wanted to use a character once why can't they have a positive ending?

I'm ngl, it got increasingly funny if not annoyijg whenever the game tried to humanized the enemies by having them shout their friends name when they're killed. Ironically, tlou1 humanizes the hunters without even making them sympathetic. Idk, dawg it's hard to sympathize with human enemies when their introduction involves shooting ellie in the shoulder with an arrow and gutting a hanging wlf.

Went into my local CEX today and asked if they'd had many copies returned.

(CEX, for those who don't live in bongland, is a chain of swap shops for media and tech and they do a business in second hand games, DVDs, hardware, and so forth. They're infamous for paying shitty prices for selling your old hardware to them unless you take store credit, and for looking for reasons to downgrade your old phone's condition score like there's a tiny scuff on the inside of the charger port. They also all invariably smell of decaying Lynx Africa. But they're one of the few places that will actually buy old games and DVDs and you can occasionally find a relic therein, like the Every Hammer Film Boxset for five quid I got about 10 years ago that I still haven't watched all of. Still, for actual hardware you are better of slapping it on Greedbay.)

They said that they've had five copies come in, all of which were resold, and two of which came back again.

I couldn't get any more information about the chappie as to how this compares to similar profile releases, but I then asked him if it was true that people were refusing to buy it on tradein because it was shite and he said he'd heard that as well.

That's the best description of a CEX ever.
They exist outside bongland, only the local scent may change at most.

Well there's a sign these retards didn't actually play the game and are blindly defending it. Ellie and Dina's first encounter with the WLF was their horse getting popped open in a ambush. They captured Ellie, not know who she was or why she was there until they brought her to the assholr she cut when Joel died. The WLF are then given orders to indiscriminately kill anyone not in their group.

"Self defense."

Maybe Ellie was modeled after Lena Dunham for this game? Would explain why Abby is so huge and somehow manages to keep getting away with it.

I just recalled Abby look a lot like when you equip a beauty face camo in MGS4. You get a woman's head on Snake's body and his octocamo is a muscle suit. It looks almost exactly like Abby. Strangely enough, that game also had the last battle being a fist fight to the death where both opponents kept on punching even after they were exhausted.

Does Druckmann just play/watch popular stuff and decided he's gonna copy the homework include them and change it a little so no one notices give them his own twisted flavor of misery and moisture?

Those games are underrated. It gives you freedom on what you do and how you do it, but has consequences.

If you only take out your targets and minimize casualties, the enemy starts to look at you in a better light. Especially if you leave downed-but alive or disarmed enemies alive.

But if you go in slaughter everyone, even your allies start to get disgusted by you.

Meanwhile, IT'S MA'AM has ass-kiss allies that spit on the helpless victims she murders.

All the talk about enemies ignoring Ellie really shows how many people didn't play the first game. Enemies actively go after and try to kill Ellie throughout the game. When she's attacked a red cross with a growing circle appears over her and if you don't save her she dies.

What people are actually referring to is how she is invisible when Joel is crouched. This was implemented because Naughty Dogs A.I. systems are Bethesda tier, and make stealth sections literally impossible if Ellie, or any of the other characters you work with throughout the game, are visible during stealth sections. Ellie will kill enemies all the time, in the beginning by throwing bottles and stabbing enemies, and later on by also shooting them.

Plus the stealth and non-lethal approach is more difficult and time consuming, so doing the correct thing requires more effort instead of just selecting some dialogue choices.
