I retweeted a @jk_rowling tweet and weighed in as a mental health professional who has written 4 books on cult mind control and how to help those who have been harmed (and their families). I have spent over 4 decades in the field of research and helping those who have been harmed by undue influence. A couple of years ago I was approached by @LisaMarchiano, a therapist who wanted to know my opinion on the phenomenon of young people being drawn into a cult-like situation where, all of a sudden, they thought they were the opposite sex. I was very skeptical as I have close friends who are gay and a few friends who are trans, but my philosophy is to be "open-minded" and started reading, watching documentaries, and asked to interview detransitioners to better understand their experience.
I became convinced that in these people's cases, they were indeed socially influenced, much of it online, to believe they must transition. Some told me they were sleep-deprived, some described the praise and support they got for saying they were trans made them feel "loved" but the most surprising and upsetting thing was that some told me they watched Hypno porn. I had no idea what they were talking about and asked for some URLs.
After my deprogramming from the Moon cult in 1976, I became interested in mind control and in 1980 went to my first workshop, an NLP workshop by Richard Bandler, and discovered the power of Ericksonian hypnotic techniques. These are what Tony Robbins learned and marketed without saying it was Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I did multiple trainings in NLP and even moved to Santa Cruz to apprentice John Grinder- the other co-founder of it. It was powerful and provided a methodology to understand cult mind control.
I came to understand NLP was amoral- meaning the system of influence was entirely dependent on the ethics of the practitioner. I distanced myself from it as they marketed it to salespeople and corporate types. I wanted to know about Milton Erickson, the psychiatrist who NLP was based on, but needed a master's degree to receive ethical training in hypnosis from health professionals. I have been attending workshops (and giving them) ever since.
What I watched in Hypno porn IMO was weapons-grade mind control and if a person watches it, especially if they were at a low point in their life, confused, stoned, are friends with a bunch of trans folks, they could be profoundly influenced to, for example, believe they were a woman in a man's body.
Let me be clear! I am for human rights. For gay and trans rights. I am against conversion "therapy." But what I have come to learn is that young people are not getting good ethical counseling regarding their traumas, their body image issues, their gayness- especially if they are raised in homophobic environments. They are being rushed to taking hormones and some cases surgery and then, sometimes years later, realize they have made a big mistake to transition.
For these people, detransitioners have told me they have been harassed, treated as a traitor- exactly what cults do to defectors. This is not right! So, I wish to add my voice to the mental health experts speaking up to say we need to stop the polarization and conflict and have a more educated nuanced point of view when it comes to human beings.
Things are not binary- all or nothing (transition or die was the ideology) vs. maybe transition, let me research, let me go for expert counseling, let me NOT be isolated from my family and friends by an all or nothing position, and let me do what is right for me. Taking powerful hormones is not benign- there are side effects. Get second and third opinions. Take your time. Is it really that hard to believe a woman who suffered domestic abuse cares about women's safety being threatened? Or that a children's author cares about children?
I feel like this time period is going to end up being listed in future history books along with the dancing plague, Salem witch trials, and other mass hysteria events. Everyone in the future is going to think we were complete morons to not being able to tell a man from a woman. Hassan is cool. His books are really interesting. He was a high-ranking Moonie who helped destroy a bunch of people's lives when he was younger and has spent the rest of his life helping other people exit cults. He does crazy interventions and stuff. His stuff is very interesting if you're interested in cult dynamics. Never would have expected he would take on trans shit. Crazy times.

The mainstreaming of transgender ideology has had a “corrosive impact” on British society and has had a negative influence on the wellbeing of children, a study from think tank Civitas has found.
The former director of the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent, Dr Joanna Williams, wrote in her report The Corrosive Impact of Transgender Ideology that transgenderism has moved from a “niche” concern to a main political focal point over the past two decades as a result of the British establishment coalescing “behind the demands of a tiny transgender community”.
“Previously authoritative institutions now lack confidence in their own ability to lead and look to the transgender community as a victimised group that can act as a source of moral authority. However, this, in turn, erodes sex-based rights and undermines child protection,” Dr Williams wrote.
“People in positions of power within the realms of media, education, academia, police, social work, medicine, law, and local and national government have been prepared to coalesce behind the demands of a tiny transgender community,” she added.
The report called for the government to ban the prescription of puberty blockers for children under the age of 18, to prohibit the study of transgender claims that contradict biological realities, and to ban schools from allowing students to ‘socially transition’ at school without the permission of parents.
The study noted that the pervasiveness of transgenderism has resulted in a significant rise in the number children” ‘who experience difficulties in the development of their gender identity'” being referred to the Tavistock — the UK’s national clinic specialising in treating children.
“The number of 13-year-olds referred for help in the past year rose by 30 per cent to 331, while the number of 11-year-olds was up by 28 per cent on the previous year. The youngest patients were just three years old. Three-quarters of children who want help to change their gender are now girls – the highest proportion ever recorded,” the study found.
Dr Williams pointed out that puberty blockers are “frequently presented to young people as a straightforward and temporary solution to the apparent ‘problem’ of their changing body”, despite the fact that the drugs “may cause irreparable harm to a child’s developing body and have a detrimental impact on future fertility”.
In arguing for a ban on giving the drugs to adolescents, Williams said that “as a society, we forbid people below the age of 18 from purchasing cigarettes or alcohol yet we deem them capable of consenting to body-altering drugs”.
The study also went on to decry the impact the transgender movement has had on the public discourse in Britain.
“The expansion of transgender rights has gone hand in hand with an expansion of state and institutional (both public and private) regulation of speech and behaviour. This highlights a significant difference between today’s transgender activists and the gay rights movement of a previous era,” Dr Willams said.
As opposed to the gay rights movement, which Williams argued sought freedom from the state, the transgender movement “calls for recognition and protection from the state in the form of intervention to regulate the behaviour of that outside of the identity group”.
“Whereas in the past, to be radical was to demand greater freedom from the state and institutional authority, today to be radical is to demand restrictions on free expression in the name of preventing offence,” she added.
