Funny thing about Mike Pollock: there’s a fansub of Sonic Adventure 2 and Eggman has a tirade about Shadow and Mike’s asked fans to ask him not do it.
Yeah, and it makes perfect sense while saying it with professional brevity. Someone like Pollock has a contract/agreement with the company he's working under, and if there's something they don't approve, they expect their contractors to comply. They may not go after non-profit fan projects because of fair use, but the contractors don't have that luxury. That's most likely the reason Mike has asked to not do "SnooPING AS usual" even though he personally might not mind it so much (though he's always come off to me as someone with actual standards).
Now Sabat I don't think is considered to be the "face" of the anime company/character to those he dubs over, although Toei I'm sure has strict guidelines they expect to be followed, hence why Chris had to get rid of "voice of Vegeta" from his handle (though the timing was suspect, so...). It's possible there's certain things Vegeta, in any language, is not allowed to say or else it could be used against them, so it's legal protection, though TFS references might fall in that gray area despite Toei's hate-boner for them.
I dunno, I believe that's one of the differences between unionized (Sega) and non-unionized (FUNimation) work for contractors. Could've sworn this has been talked about by someone like Mike (who's also done non-union work in the past unless New York's anime distributors had a different approach) or someone who mostly does video game/Western cartoons.
