(CNN)A Muslim woman has filed a discrimination charge against Target after she said she received a drink from a Target Starbucks barista with "ISIS" written on the cup instead of her name at one of the retail corporation's Minnesota locations.

Aishah, who asked to be identified only by her first name out of fear for her safety, is being represented by the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN), which filed a charge to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights on Monday.

The 19-year-old, who wears a hijab, a headscarf worn by Muslim women, told CNN she felt singled out for her religious beliefs after seeing "ISIS" -- the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a terrorist group known for its radical beliefs and violence -- on her cup. It's unclear if ISIS was written in all caps on the cup.

"The moment I saw it, I was overwhelmed with a lot of emotions," Aishah said. "I felt belittled and so humiliated. This is a word that shatters the Muslim reputation all over the world. I cannot believe that in this day and age, something like this can be considered acceptable. It isn't okay."

The incident occurred on July 1, at the St. Paul-Midway Target Starbucks, Aishah said. She said she also was wearing a face mask, because of the ongoing pandemic, but said she repeated her name to the barista. She didn't spell it out.

"When she asked for my name, I slowly repeated it multiple times," she said. "There is absolutely no way she could have heard it as ISIS. Aishah is not an unknown name and I repeated it multiple times."

The employee claimed to Aishah at the time that she had not heard the name correctly, according to the discrimination charge, a copy of which was obtained by CNN.

After requesting to speak to the barista's supervisor, Aishah told CNN her "concerns were dismissed" and that she was given a new drink and a $25 Starbucks gift card before being escorted from the premises by security officers, according to the charge.

Aishah said she immediately filed a formal complaint to Target and has yet to receive a response. Target did not immediately respond to CNN's request regarding Aishah's formal complaint.

However, in an email statement to CNN, a spokesperson for Target said the retailer wants "everyone who shops with us to feel welcomed, valued and respected and we strictly prohibit discrimination and harassment in any form. We are very sorry for this guest's experience at our store and immediately apologized to her when she made our store leaders aware of the situation."

"We have investigated the matter and believe that it was not a deliberate act but an unfortunate mistake that could have been avoided with a simple clarification," the spokesperson said. "We're taking appropriate actions with the team member, including additional training, to ensure this does not occur again."

Starbucks declined to comment on the incident. A spokesperson for Starbucks told CNN by phone that this Starbucks is located inside a Target, meaning it is entirely run and operated by Target.

Jaylani Hussein, executive director of CAIR-MN, said labeling someone who is Muslim as "ISIS" is "perhaps the most Islamophobic statement you can make towards a Muslim."

"The statement that came out from Target is just unfortunate," Hussein told CNN. "Now we know this is a bigger issue than a simple misunderstanding, because the entire corporation is apologizing for Islamophobia without taking action."

Hussein said CAIR-MN has also asked Target "to launch another thorough investigation that involves Aishah and to train their employees on Islamophobia and bigotry."

Either this is a hoax and Starcucks will apologize, pay out an unspecified amount and have their employees go through some bullshit sensitivity training, or it's real and the above happens all the same.

Either way, Starbucks loses and people get reminded that muslims are a bunch of snivling little punks.

Win-win as they say.

Either this women is lying or that barista is incredibly stupid.
I'd have to hear how the name was pronounced first, I've heard plenty of people who pronounce their name completely inconsistent with how it's spelled.

I've also known 5 or 6 women named Isis over the years, it was a relatively common name with black woman until the last decade of course.

I don't believe any of these stories now, too many hoaxes.
Funny, many of them won't assimilate, but learn how to work the system and sue anything that moves.
1. They're actively encouraged not to assimilate by a number of people, for different reasons.
2. Even a lot of animals figure out how to effectively manipulate their surroundings.

Funny how they can't work, can't pay rent, can't afford basics, but they SURE know when and how to get a lawyer when their feelings get hurt.

Oh yeah, the same state where a Target got obliterated during the first wave of riots and made international news.

There is no way she didn't just say her name was Isis and some unsuspecting barista fell for the bait. And even if they didn't, there was no way around that, since questioning her about her name would lead to an equally as damning situation where she'd scream racism because they spelled her name wrong or something.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

It's hilarious that Starbucks hasn't caught on and just gone to a numbered order system already. Nope. And even though 99% of these stories turn out to be bullshit, they're just going to keep stepping on this same damn rake. But these are the people who willingly turned their bathrooms into shooting galleries for homeless junkies, so who's really surprised anyway?

I don‘t think it’s a hoax, unless she specifically did tell the barista her name was ISIS, in which case I suspect they barista would have told the manager when the lady filed her complaint. The rest of the writing on that cup matches the writing in the Isis. The curve of that C, especially is very similar to the curve in the s. So I don’t think she wrote it herself.

That said, I could believe that if someone was muttering and had their face covered that “Aiy-sha” could sound like “Ai-shish”. We also don’t know what her last name is. Maybe it is Isis. That said, the second I and S are definitely lower-case, so they weren’t trying to write ISIS. They wrote Isis.

At any rate, she also got escorted out of the premises. It’s not often that a complaint to management gets you escorted out of a Target. I saw some pretty heated interactions when I worked there as a teenager. If she was removed, I suspect there’s definitely more to the story.
People don't speak up when wearing masks. It's incredibly difficult to hear people with masks and glass partitions many food and retail places have. I can buy it being an honest mistake on the part of the barista.

Almost every time i go into a Starbucks they fuck up my name somehow, it happens to most people. A costumer would say Ted and they'll write Ben or something. It's nothing to get your titty in a twist about.

The fact that Isis had to get escorted out just shows she continued to be a belligerent bitch even after receiving an apology, a free coffee and a $25 gift card. She got more than she deserved but that's not enough, she has to have the terrorist-funding non-profit CAIR involved.

You don't have to be incredibly stupid to mishear an unfamiliar name at a cafe counter. Lots of Starbucks barristas don't have a college education and worse, some of them do.

Maybe if he was a bit more familiar with Islam he'd have been able to clarify: "You mean as in the 9 year old wife of Mohammed" over the hubbub but unless there's actual evidence he genuinely wrote "ISIS" to mock her, there's such a thing as innocent until proven guilty. It's an entirely plausible mistake.

Funny how they can't work, can't pay rent, can't afford basics, but they SURE know when and how to get a lawyer when their feelings get hurt.

I think half the time the lawyers find them. I'm pretty sure when the person who did the "independent" autopsy on George Floyd found the family rather than they sought out him. Didn't the same doctor also perform the autopsy on Jeffrey Epstein and will be doing the one for Ghislaine Maxwell next month?

Starbucks baristas are usually so stressed (ofc depending on the location) and the machines behind them are so fucking loud, they just simply don't understand your stupid name and are probably out of fucks to write it correctly.

They can't blow this out more of proportion, can they?
