Filing a civil suit would always be an option, but for it to have any chance to succeed you'd probably need to be able to show some sort of damages.

A civil suit cannot result in loss of freedom which is what most people want with criminal actions.
Hopefully this is the straw that breaks the camels back and push him over the edge.lets hope we see a massive meltdown.

So here's a question for any Canadian legal experts: how much does it mean that they managed to get charges laid?
Holding lolcows (even those without special identities) accountable for their actions is anathema to all Western justice systems. So the real question is going to be, how many more gatekeepers does this case have to pass before it comes down to a trial with a guilty/not guilty verdict? Can the Crown say "never mind" and drop charges? Can a judge say "Not dealing with this" and throw the case out? Can the police (or whoever) just not show up to court and leave the prosecution with no evidence?
For that matter, since injustice knows no limits: how many people in the Canadian justice system are capable of outright pardoning Yaniv?

True, you'd typically just be asking the court to order them to pay you. But that's all I really see happening to Yaniv anyway, being ordered to pay a fine.

This fucker will be in PC immediately. In a women's jail. With his attitude there is zero chance he'd survive a week on a male range.
The cops are compelled to attend, and are incentivised to do so with time and a half. The Crown would not have elected to pursue the charge if they figured there was no reasonable chance of conviction. The most likely thing to happen is for Jonny's lawyer and the Crown to enter a joint submission for adult diversion (restraining order, charity, probation, etc) which the judge will most likely accept (but is not compelled to). Depends on if Jonny agrees to a Diversion before sentencing for the other charges. My guess is he will recieve a conditional discharge which means a probation period after which the conviction goes away. Canada does not have actual pardons anymore, rather "suspension of record of conviction" which does not clear the record. If I had to guess I'd say that he'll get 2 years probation and a bit of community service/fine.

Yeah, I guess that really gets to the heart of it - to what extent do the various people acting as "The Crown" act in unison? Is this more like an institutional commitment to see this case all the way through to some sort of conclusion, or one government functionary kicking this case one step further down the line to get that annoying lawyer for Rebel Media off his back?

there will be an assigned crown. any other crown who appears in lieu of the assigned crown will take direction from above.
Usually the assigned Crown shows up for the arraignment, pretrials, and trial. A junior c\rown will deal withall the inanities such as setting dates, etc.

Although jail time would be nice, it's unlikely to happen. However, he has such a hate boner for rebel media that getting charged in itself is a win against his smug ass.

Assuming your source is right there might be too much selection bias in who ends up staying in county jail to read too much into it. In major metros the county jail is where people go when they can't post bond while awaiting trial and since homeless are the least likely to post bond you'd see more of them in the population at any one time. The fact that short sentences for misdemeanors are served in county jail also creates a bit of an imbalance, since most people can just pay the fines for those, but not the homeless. Several of those misdemeanors are crimes associated with homelessness induced by mental disorders (disorderly conduct, public nudity) and substance abuse (drug possession, open container laws), and just normal homelessness (begging, sleeping/sitting in public, vagrancy).
