Also hilarious is Tess's known committment against 'intentional weight loss', before-and-after photos and anything, ANYTHING that promotes even an iota of restrictive eating alongside an 'ideal' body shape and composition while simultaneously kissing an Olympic gymnast's arse. Gymnastics culture is mired in nothing BUT restrictive eating, idealisation of a certain weight and shape and gymnasts are often weighed continuously to the actual detriment of their psychological health.
Fat-shaming - actual shaming, that is, not imaginery slights, and of young girls who are already at a low weight. is a standard in that world to the point of pure insanity. Sccessful gymnasts from various countries have all spoken about the shit that has been said to them to push more weight loss or the diets they've been put on or the expectations of weight loss (one UK Olympic team gymnast recently said she was pushed to lose 7kg in 2 weeks). That's because your weight is actually an important factor in your performance at that level and the coaches are only concerned with winning, not your long term health and wellbeing. So these girls know how to diet in ways Tess wrap her head around and are highly conscious of their weight and size. To an Olympic gymnast, Tess probably represents both a total nightmare of loss of physical and mental control and some simultaneous guilty fantasy about eating whatever you want until you burst.
