I remember 1791l made a video on Fantano. I can’t find the first video 1791l made on Fantano that got Anthony mad (was is deleted or am I just shit at finding stuff). It was something with Noam Chomsky and that Fantano talks about the original video in question on his live stream around 2018. 1791 made this video showing Anthony Fantano’s response to the original video.

Christgau sucks. He’s funny sometimes but he tries too hard with his taste. Look at how many albums from Africa he always puts in his Pazz and Jop polls. What a fake. I’m not a huge fan of RYM tbh. I used to use it for catalog reasons. It’s pretty good for that.

[A] I don't "watch" reviews. I read writing. When I'm at the computer I almost never click on links to podcasts or televised news much less criticism, for two reasons--first, reading is faster than listening, and second, I'm continually using my ears to listen to music. Moreover, no one I know "discusses" Anthony Fantano, a name I barely recognized. Glancing over his Wikipedia entry he seems to have arrived at a plausible brand of 21st-century rockcrit taste that runs toward what I'll call dark prog--the godfathering Swans, this year's number one Daughters, on the rap end his beloved Death Grips. But clearly he's broader than that. Little apparent interest in the pop end or indeed tune or indeed fun, however--always a tragic and psychologically revealing lacuna. Nowhere near as insensible to hip-hop/r&b as dark proggers tend to be, but note that very few female artists crack his top 10s, which in 2018 was really missing the action. Fantano seems to have figured out a way to make some kind of living by disseminating his own criticism in the online age. That's an achievement. But until he starts putting it in written language, I'll live without.

I remember thinking Tom was being a bit alarmist back then, that Fantano wasn't that bad. I was wrong to doubt him, apparently.

Unfortunately I don’t remember what exactly the comment he was responding to said except something along of lines of he just couldn’t relate to a female experience Fiona wrote about in her song “For Her” (I mean, it is in the title) and that he misinterpreted the lyrics. It was admittedly a bit MOTI, but the poster said nothing about trans women. I’m a big Fiona fan so it stuck out to me. Just a retarded response from a person who has no rebuttal.

I think this is the #1 thing I hate about this guy, it seems like he doesn't even totally buy into the stuff he's arguing. He just knows it's good for his career to suck up to the twitter wokescolds and punch down on low-hanging fruit that it's socially encouraged to bully ("terfs," incels, etc).
