What bothers me is that the site is being sold to a staff member who took a direct part in turning the community against Richard and was telling everybody to get ready to flee the site, and was regularly updating the users on the status of negotiations with a tone of "if this falls through, i'll let you know so you can resume the riots."

There's very good reason to suspect that Jeffrey has been colluding with Logan and the staff to sabotage the goodwill of Something Awful in order to drive down the company's price as much as possible. In addition, Jeffrey is in an excellent position to threaten to destroy the entire company if it is not sold at a bargain price. Since goons lack any rules of engagement when they set out to fuck with people online or in real life, this is extremely plausible.

This is very plausible. Obviously Lowtax thinks Jeff is his bud and (secretly) Team Lowtax or otherwise he wouldn’t be selling to him. Jeff wants to “save” the community.

But it sounds like Logan was quick to try and rally a new crew of her own for rebranding efforts. It may have just been the freebie writers but maybe she won over some admin/mods by being a liaison to Lowtax. She could have claimed credit for helping Lowtax see why FYAD had to go and thus wining over the anti-fyad woke brigade.

Even if Logan and Jeff had little interaction her canceling Lowtax certainly was of great benefit to Jeff. Who else is Lowtax going to sell too now with all this community dissatisfaction? If Logan actually get to keep playing COO after Jeff gets control, then I’d say they were in cohoots to some degree.

It's sorta funny that he thinks it's all about Logan's accusations. Jeffrey of YOSPOS is a clout-chaser. It is difficult to describe, but he is the kind of person who, when weighing in on a contentious issue, writes it in such a way that he doesn't make anyone upset, and in so doing does not say or do anything of substance.

To give an example, Jeffrey tried to save FYAD by appointing himself as its guardian. It was a very transparent attempt to buy his way into the good graces of the cool kids' club. FYAD wanted nothing to do with that, which was what actually killed it for good.

For my part, I don’t have anything concrete to say that there’s any extortion going on, it’s just a situation where one party has both the means and the motivation to do shady shit. In some professions the mere appearance of a conflict of interest is enough to sound an alarm when a big transaction is taking place, but you’re right that that standard doesn’t apply here. I’ll drop it unless and until something more solid comes out suggesting that Richard got totally fucked on the deal.

As for the future of the site under Jeffrey, I imagine his adoration for its precious community will cool somewhat after the Secret Service pay a visit to his house and make him hand over all available information for the aspiring mass political murderer du jour.

Like I said, the scenario you paint is definitely not an impossible one. Hell, Jeffery could be the one who told maplewife about Bogan and put her in touch with Megan for all I know. I just think it gives too much credit to everyone involved in this mess.


The only one getting fucked here is Jeffery.
Now, I could be wrong, because I don't know how SA,LLC is structured or run, but I believe Jeffery will be inheriting all of SA's tax liability - he could be giving away the site for nothing, and still technically coming out ahead to the tune of 6-figures of tax debt. So every dollar he gets above that is bonus income, and that's why I'm almost certain there is on-going financial flow to Richard in the agreement despite what Jeffery says. After all, lying openly and blatantly to their "community" comes naturally to SA leadership.

Remember the Mod-Forum leaks from the FYAD crisis? How despite the messages from leadership they were vocally behind defending FYAD until it got axed, and suddenly reversed course? How they were fawning all over Ralp and seeing if he could stick around for Mod chat right until he got unpersoned?
