What I hate about that term is that it, when taken by itself, has a kernel of truth to it. There are men who can only feel masculine by exerting control over others via physical or mental abuse or by committing violence for the sake of violence. I like to think that Fight Club is the perfect example of this mindset, and in a perfect world that would be the definition of toxic masculinity.Toxic masculinity. The general idea that the inherent traits of being a man are bad while also implying women can do no wrong. It's sexist but in sort of a roundabout way that tries to make you look like the good guy.
But that isn't what the term means and it isn't how people use it. Toxic masculinity is used as a cudgel to reduce masculine traits because they're apparently misogynistic, and that includes things like having sexual feelings for women. You don't see anything about "toxic femininity," even though women are just as capable of doing the same shit they criticize men for when they complain about toxic masculinity.
