Costa Rica's famously stable and has a large American expat community. It's a great choice.

That's a very good point and one I had lost sight of. I guess as annoying as it must be for me, I cannot imagine how immensly frustrating it must be for black people who have made a success of their lives, got good jobbs and solid careers and lovely families, made use of an education. I'm half Castizo beaner and live in a predominantly Hispanic and Asian neighborhood, so in addition to having whatever trace amounts of white guilt I had left dissipate I'm also looking at my Latino neighbors in a whole new light, one that your average liberal may not find to their liking. Seeing the Latin Kings and other Hispanic gangs fight off BLM and looters was a seriously WTF but awesome moment.

Anecdotally, they seem to be trying to get Hispanics to come to the BLM side, which as with shaming Asians is fucking asinine. I went all over southern Mexico and further south and never encountered one. I did enter a rain forest in Belize and less than fifteen feet in I was disoriented. The entire place was moving, with insects, birds and small mammals and of course, mosquitoes, which are a bot fly vector. It's been theorized we haven't discovered the majority of insects in existence so I wouldn't be surprised if you can catch something bad in a place like that. A compass, DEET and mosquito netting are essential if you plan on going inland. Anti-malarials too. Edit: Machetes are necessary for marking your trail and slashing your way through the forest. A Mayan taught me how to use one in Belize.

Don't go in a rain forest or work around livestock down there would be my advice.
