A very long and autistic rant about gremlins:

The problem with these projects is that the devs don't actually understand the fundamental flaws with Yandere Sim (aside from the dev himself obviously). Take this vid from DrApeis who is making the Love Sick knock off.

The video is titled 'Gameplay Janks' but it doesn't actually address any base gameplay. Rather, it nitpicks randoms bullshit like "why does the gardening club water the same flowers multiple times!", as if these tiny details actually affect the broader game meaningfully. This isn't to say none of DrApeis's critiques are valid, many of them are, for example, he points out poor path finding and robotic NPCs in an earlier vid. However, Yandere Sim is a retarded anime game which isn't taken that seriously. Consequently, a cringey story, minor inconsistencies, and nitpics are totally irrelevant to the broader experience. What matters is gameplay; how fun it is, and Yandere Sim struggles to be fun.

The biggest problem stopping Yandere Sim from being fun (besides the dev, obviously) is the gameplay of murdering someone. The stealth mechanics are okay, but the environment clashes with that stealth constantly. For example, the hallways are small, restrictive, and give very little room for actual stealth. The roof is probably the best area in this regard. Additionally, every murder plays out similarly (clean up blood, get new uniform from locker room, carry body and weapon to furnace), to the extent where you are (literally) filling out a checklist. The repetition mixed with poor stealth makes murder feel frustrating and tedious rather than fun and challenging.

This segways into the second biggest problem which is... every other killing method. While murder is tedious, there is actually depth. The player has to plan shit out and there is actually a bit of emergent gameplay. Every other killing method is scripted trash. The player buys a scheme from info and follows a checklist. That's it. Literally no depth at all. The larger killing methods like matchmaking, rival specific eliminations, and making senpai hate the rival, are also tedious and boring because of the third biggest problem.

Yandere Sim's world sucks. Visually, it's bland. Gameplay wise, there isn't much to do other than walk around. Students are boring to interact with. There is very little emergent gameplay. The RPG elements are so underdeveloped they might as well not exist. Overall, the game's environment just feels... empty. Despite being small as shit it feels like all that space is wasted.

Anyway, autistic rant over. None of the Yandere Sim knockoffs I've seen actually address any of those issues, which is pretty disappointing. My advice would be to make your OWN game. Change up murder mechanics, spice up stealth, abandon some mechanics (like photos and sanity) and replace them with your own. Make your game more than just a superior knock off, make it distinct.
This issue is this game is literally someone trying to blend oil and water. It doesnt work. He wants Hitman in the world of Persona. Someone already made a video about this part, but those games are so different, you arent going to get anything out of it. You cant make the game full on assassinate other chicks, because the setting makes no God damn sense. No school on Earth would open up after 2 murders INSIDE school doors. The school in Yandere Sim is just ready for the same shit the next day. And you want the player to engage in you weird RPG growth mechanics too? This should be a visual novel, not whatever the fuck this abomination is.

That one is poes law levels of unsure. Holyshit I know yanderesim fandom attracts weird people. But a message like that really makes you question if it's real or a joke. Given the weird fucks that still pay yanderegrift money on patron, it's likely real. :story:

I disagree. I think a gimmicky hitman-persona hybrid is fantastic conceptually, the execution is just terrible. Good games merge unconventional genres together all the time. Persona did it with VNs and RPGs, portal did it with FPS and puzzle platformers, Resident Evil combines survival horror and action.

I liked the idea of the game being super reliant on tropes. I thought the original idea was that you were a yandere, and each rival would represent a different anime girl trope that you had to get rid of. I also thought that this idea worked well with Senpai being utterly boring, because you were also a trope yourself. Senpai only existed because you were a yandere.

I don’t remember where he said this (it was sometime back in 2015/2016), but this seemed to be backed up by statements like “This school will stay open even if a bunch of people get murdered.”

I wonder where he lost the plot, or rather, decided the game needed some persona tier plot.

Portal is the only one doing an unconventional merge there. VNs and RPGs aren't that far from each other to begin with and neither is Survival-Horror and Action.

The examples you gave don't mix genres that clash with each other. Those combinations are pretty easy to make and design.
(BTW I don't think Persona counts as a part-VN, but I haven't played it, so whatever, who cares.)

The problems arise when you mix two genres that have very different basic principles, like RTS and FPS. There are few RTS+FPS games and they all feel like a gimmick, like an experiment worth hearing about, but not playing.

Maybe there is a solution that makes Hitman and Persona blend together, but from what I've seen, no one has found that solution yet. Including Alex's fans, Alex's competitors, Alex's peanut gallery and, most importantly, Alex himself.

We need Japs to do it right.

A game based on tropes worked when his audience was still weebs, not tweens like it's right now.

probably if they actually used different locations for fucking once. just break into someones fucking house so that school isnt cancelled constantly holy shit
But that would mean a lot of work making each house unique and distant. If Alex can't even finish a single rival in 6 years then it's no surprise he stuck with just one location.

well i wouldnt think alex would do it, wasnt really thinking about him doing shit when i wrote this

YandereDev just tweeted (archive) about the suicide baiting.
Does this man ever keep his mouth shut about anything else except "false narratives" and "untrue accusations"?

To the surprise of nobody, in his constant attempts to always look like the victim, he keeps lying and gets the usual super-positive comments from his (for some reason) many asspatters.
I'm completely positive he's not depressed, sad or whatever. All this is kind of a victory for him in the way that it's still publicity, he will get some more ignorant followers and people will feel bad for him so he can, again and again, weasel his way out of working on the game but still keeping that sweet effort-free money for even longer.

Another thing I'm positive of is that all bad things that happened and will happen to him are, to put it simply, pure comeuppance. As he treated, treats and will treat everyone, including supporters, like shit, he will get treated like shit in response everytime. You reap what you sow, basically.

Ah cool, didn't expect the YanDev thread to be up again. New drama, new shit to talk about.
I posted it on a youtube video but let mejust say it again:

Alex has a victim mentality and I've seen it time and time again with narcissistic tendencies and behaviors. It's sick. And he's using suicide as blackmail for DrApeis to stop? How could one man stoop so low? I've only had one other person do that to me as blackmail and guess what--they're still alive and well. It's a guilt tactic. Alex, just FUCKING SHUT UP ALREADY.

Everyone that supported him has either moved on, or is pissed off from years of waiting for something that's never going to be finished.

If he were smart, the "lies debunked!" page on his sight would be a single paragraph long and it would read something like "people exaggerate things for drama online. Don't trust what you read on the internet." instead of a bizarre screed where he absolutely has to explain every single rumor in detail.

If he were smart. Unfortunately for him, he insists on creating a giant screed, digging bigger holes for himself when he should stop digging.

my prediction? He won’t kill himself but he will transition into a woman saying that prevents him
from doing a Minecraft IRL.
>becoming a tranny to save himself from suicide

Well, this can work, but probability is 59%.
