Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

The difference in linework and shading between foreground and background suggest the latter was some Google Sketchup-aided CGi creation though whereas Frog is drawing his art using traditional means.
Yeah, it's digital.

Also all this sperging on perspective, and the example given of "better" has more egregious examples. The parking meter in the multi perspective city shot? It's not at the correct angle for it to be where it would be in a proper space: it should be either perpendicular to the spot or parallel to where the bumper would be. The slots and reader should be facing at those angles.

I'm sorry, but this is a shit angle you two are trying to work.

You might think that but you'd be in error. This is the cover drawing for Mateo's perspective drawing manual, Framed Perspective Vol. 1, that is highly regarded throughout the industry. As it turns out he's just really good and extremely technical at drawing perspective. You could say "He wrote the book." Ethan could stand to pick up a copy.

I will give you that the drawing was likely done on a computer as I know he likes to use Photoshop.

I just bought four of his books from Amazon...really wonderful stuff, can't wait to get them. Thanks!

I'm not working an angle. Ethan said this is "complicated" and "spectacular" background work...
1594787931108.png

I said it was neither complicated nor spectacular and presented an example of actually complicated and more impressive work.
1594788109013.png

Ethan's been moving the goal posts and expressing his tenuous grasp of perspective ever since.

If he wants to sperg out about it that's his deal.

The parking meter is next to the wall in a lot that employs angle parking. It's oriented correct to the horizon line. And while the drawing is likely drawn on a computer I doubt the guy putting out a book on perspective cheated using Sketch-Up.

I just bought four of his books from Amazon...really wonderful stuff, can't wait to get them. Thanks!
There you go!

There's always room for improvement.

looks to me like the dude is falling over. I mean he does look like he’s puffed up from all that wasp venom and stuff.

You know all this talk about over hatching, perspective and coloring and yah de yah has made me remember of another Ramona of CG.

Shinobi Sasquatch: Book One by Cal Jameson.

I mean from just looking at the inks, it looks cool.

I think Cal's problem is that he puts in way too much detail. just look at the following pages, they are the same page just redrawn.

D1VuHSUVYAAsy_h.jpg D6J171nXoAgDTiC.jpg

And the strange thing...He's technically not "late" on his indiegogo. Which is odd as I thought you can't change the date of shipping...

I like Rob Willis's art too. I backed that book. I generally enjoy simpler line work with less rendering but Rob's stuff reminds me of Richard Corben's work which was something to behold in the 80's.

Gentle reminder the hanger-on thread was specifically created for people to call @FROG a piece of shit without derailing the main thread. Ethan can you move the conversation over there? Thanks babe. 😘
Decided to give the comment section from Mitch's interview a bit to fill out to see if anything juicy popped up. Only 4 so far, but I'm expecting some vitriol to seep through over the week to keep kicking Mitch in the ass. Not a particularly interesting interview and the interviewer seems to be tossing Mitch a bunch of softballs, but the first story of Red Rooster is gonna be split into 3 parts, so expect one more pdf to come out. The question of whether backers would get their book before part 3 hit stores did come up from the chat and Mitch didn't seem completely confident that backers would get their's first, particularly the overseas guys(32:22) but he claims his team is pushing to make that happen. Watching backers shit themselves in a rage when some schmuck can walk into Walmart on a whim and potentially get the whole story before their books hits the mailbox is gonna be a sight to see. Tick tock, Mitch.

Skinny and Capn Cummings in the comment section, but I don't recognize anyone else of note. Skinny just put out a video detailing all the negative comments on Mitch's IGG page, it's pretty bad.

Also the PDF's of issue 2 of Red Rooster have gone out to backers emails, similarly to the first issue it contains DRM that watermarks the backers email address.

There's also two hours left on Sean Gordon Murphies Plot Holes campaign, he's passed two stretch goals in the past 15 hours.

Looks like upgrades to the covers of the hardcover and softcover and heavier paper for the TPB. The Hardcover perk now contains unspecified "goodies" as a trophy edition.

I was going to put this all in a Comicsgate News Update but other than the Warcampaign colorist mini-drama, it's pretty quiet in CG atm.

EDIT:
Looks like I spoke to soon, another kiwi alerted me that Oz Arts once again had Doug TenNapel as a guest on his previous stream.

I've yet to watch it but the subject of FAN (Fan Advocacy Network) came up. For those not in the know, FAN was a critic of Comicsgate who had fake screenshots passed around claiming he possessed CP. The source of these screenshots was Reinoe, an individual who has faked discord screenshots in the past, most notably of Heather Antos. I haven't watched the Oz Art's stream but I am told the topic arose. Liam now appears to be going live in less than twenty minutes himself to address the allegations, since he along with Warcampaign, Micah Curtis, Andrew Huerta and several others signal boosted the false information in an attempt to life ruin FAN.

Like I said I'm not really up to date on everything, perhaps @Mister Dongs can help fill in any blanks.

Doug was hanging around Oz's show as he does for some reason and, after Doug grouped Liam and Sketch together, Liam showed up on "LIVE WITHOUT LIAM" to confront Doug on the persistent questioning of his mental health; Doug asked what was the difference between every claim made against Liam that he doesn't like and Liam alerting the FBI and publicly declaring Fan Advocacy Network to be a pedophile? Liam argued that every time someone poses a bullshit claim intended to smear you publicly the burden of proof is upon you to disprove. But Doug's words have given him a moment for pause clearly, that maybe "innocent until proven guilty" is a good principle to follow. Unsure, Liam consults his chat, always a good idea when needing ethical and general life advice.

Edit: Frog has entered the chat.

1594796877662.png

RIP Smug Freiza

Quick summary because the stream was quickly closed down and privated: Micah Curtis cites' Fan Advocacy Network's history of low character - namely of being a sperg and a persistent a-logger of Frog who is also associated with people like the Roiloup brothers who have acted questionably in the past; all of this, on top of the evidence provided by the always trustworthy reinoe, establishes reasonable grounds that refute any claim that Micah or Liam (or Andrew Huerta or Donal Delay) acted wrongly in the situation and thus "fuck Fan Advocacy Network" - no he does not deserve an apology. Liam's other counsel, Matt Tobor, suggested that perhaps it wasn't wise to keep a video record of Liam and Micah saying that they publicly reported someone to the FBI on charges of CP distribution that were proven to be utterly baseless while refusing to apologize or even retract the accusations.

Liam, while not being sold on an apology, does see the wisdom in Tobor's words. Tobor even goes so far that Liam should not solicit randos in youtube chat for advice on such matters, which does not win him many fans in Liam's chat, chief among them Frog, Cecil and Malin. Eventually our hero is faced with a dichotomy of whether allowing potential evil to go unpunished by not heeding reinoe's gayops, or run the risk wronging the innocent in one's zeal to defend the good. Eventually a resolution is reached where he says he'll continue to report suspected criminals to the authorities, just not publicy.

I'll pop in.
Ethan's page has bad perpective, the guy is pasted on the background and isn't anchored in the scene at all, because he doesn't follow the 1 persp point that's up (It'snot about the pose, or if he's supposed to be falling down, his basic shapes don't follow the horizon, nor vanishing points, nor his proportions change accordingly. He is very close to camera and should be distorted like fuck, he'snot). He exists out of this scene. The trees are simplistic, even if they are detailed, and don't follow the perspective with their grith or detailing level. It's clearly a lot of time was put into it.
Second example is very simple 2 point perspective. It seems more complicated, simply because it's very cleanly drawn and uses simple trick to make it more interesting: vanishing points are close to each other making distortion in the front look dynamic, also the cars are parked at the angle compared to the buildings, which makes it look more complicated and dynamic. There is no 5th vanishing point to it, because there isn't even 3rd. The amount of points isn't about how many points you can count due to singular objects being at differentangle, but what mathematical treansformation you use to calculate position of points. Yes perspective is pure math, not surprisingly to anyone who had to go through spacial geometry classes. (5 points would be the case of taking a photo with fish eye lens).

If you want good example of exactly same setting that actually follow perspective (even if the angle is less dynamic) AND has similar workhours put into it, here you go, Hermann Hupper.

While "owning" his former colourist Ro accidentally confirms that the Vestige 2 launch was a rushed mistake. 40 days from 10 May is June 19th nearly 3 weeks later than the botched June 1st launch. I mean not that anybody doubted the campaign was thrown together in 3 hours...

And as a side note it looks like MAGAnificent 7 (if its still on the first 30 days which im sure it is?) is gonna beat V2. What a spectacular fall from grace.

when I have stuff coming out, I will promote it on my own merit. If I can get EVS to give me a shout out, awesome. If not, I still have a book that needs to be funded. My loyalty will be rewarded when I get three comics, a pvs toy and a cool trading card for 25 dollars. Something that no other campaign on now or has been on since has managed to come close to offering for such a cheap price.

As for the Dynamite situation, I really couldn’t give a damn about it. I don’t buy their products anyway If they wanna support BLM than let them, I’m not gonna sperg out about it.
Best thing you can do is promote it on it's own merit. Just make sure you're growing your audience so people will actually know about it--that's the toughest part.

I know my last igg failed but if you have any igg questions, let me know. While we dont agree on everything, I'm always down to help another creator.

I never really mentioned perspective once....

So that CG killstream. holy shit. head crushing depth man. It falls into two parts. Part one is deep with discussions of Truth and Beauty. What is reality Kiwis?

(1).

-Wormie argues that truth can't be gleaned thru culture. Oz is like, what does that even mean? What is even culture?

-Wormie divides culture into two categories. The Classical Greek snob concept and modern culture aka the fashionable.

-He asks Oz his definition, Oz tries to tap dance around his relativism. Wormie uses reductio ad absurdum. Oz is too stupid for it to work.

-One of the chat crassly describes Wormie as pretentious. He finds it amusing.

-Mike gets shit for being late on his last campaign,

-Wormie and Oz continue talking. Talk about Smuglass around 52 minute mark. Wormie throws shade at the great fat one.

-at 130 Oz confronts Wormie with hypocrisy on Poulter pegging, but he deflects by pointing that Tug is a cuck.

-Liam finally appears. He's pissed that Wormie compared him to Sketch. Oz, Wormie is more valuable in entertaining people than crazy Liam.

-Liam defends reporting internet eNeMiEs to the cops for memes. He's actually making sense???? If this shit was true that's what your supposed to do if someone is a criminal. Wormie uses this to dunk on Liam. This is why there is culture in CG.

-Liam is going on his crazy rant for a while. Honest question, just how representative are the Australians on here?

-Wormie calls BLM a communist group and says that CG supports them. Liam argues that gay people can fight SJW. Wormie agrees. Liam then goes one step to far and attempts to shame Wormie for saying things that hurt the gays feelings so they might not want to team up to fight.

-We are now at 2:40.

-Wormie says we disagree. Liam, with his brain damage, is condescending asking what is difficult for Wormie to understand.

-Liam argues that gay marriage doesn't have to be apart of every conversation. Wormie points out that this principle could be applied to CG and talking about unearned heroism. CG doesn't shy away from other equally divisive rhetoric that offends but is relevant to culture war.

-Liam argues that the two are unequal and that Gay marriage is personal and real and the concept of heroism is fictional. Wormie argues that women are real individual. Wormie argues that Gay marriage is a central tenant of SJWism. There is no SJW who is against gay marriage.

-Liam is backing up, asking if its relevant in comics. Wormie argues that its relevant among the creators who were getting attacked for their personal beliefs on the issue. Wormie finishes with a massive jab. All the prominent CG voices who were publicly christian have left CG.

-At this point the wackos come on stream and the stream transitions to weirdos.

Did anyone actually expect Vestige 2 to do well? They have roughly 25% of the people who backed the first book.
Mike Miller has artistic talent even though he's extremely unlikable and a preachy douchebag he can produce his own work.
The War Campaign has always been about trolling and harassment with retarded inside jokes mixed in that almost no one understands.
33k dollars from 435 backers comes to $76 per paypig. I don't know about you faggots but $76 bucks for a fucking comic book created by a gay ops discord group is a total rip off.

TUG's ACOTLU sonichu comic has similar numbers with the average paypig giving $71 USD.

Ethan's campaign is the worst by far with the average paypig at nearly $117 USD.

If these comics were actually selling well the average contribution dollars would be trending down, not up. The price of the standard comic is $25. Ethans's campaign has been contributed to more that 8,800 times.

Smiller's "maganificient 7" campaign has an average contribution of $55.50 USD.

SGM's "plot holes" has an average backer at $83 USD.

The trend is fewer people paying more money. I can buy thousands of graphic novels containing hundreds of pages for less than any of these campaigns. As has been pointed out multiple times the ebay resell market for these CG and indie crowdfund comics is NOT strong. The biggest eBay seller for EVS's comics is Ethan himself who has cornered his own market.
There are currently 2 copies of Vestige #1 on ebay for $60 and $50 respectively.

There are 4 listing of TUG's TCOTLU on ebay with the lowest being 42.00 after sellers fees and shipping you may make $10 reselling his book.

To compare I searched for "America Chavez variant covers". When these came out they sold for $10-$30 at my LCS. They are all listed on ebay at over $150 now.

To sum it up you're going to have zero luck selling EVS comics on Ebay because he owns the market. If you undercut him you're taking a small profit so it's hardly worth it. The rest of these comics simply don't sell at all online.

Theres one copy of "stardust" by Nasser on ebay for $30. Better get on that!!

Ethans average backer is at $116 bucks but his comic doesn't resell for $100. Is all of CG a ripoff? Yes. The collectible value accumulation is already taken out of the books by their prohibitively expensive original price.

If you're looking to resell comics at a profit your best bet is collecting Marvel variant covers.

CG "creators" may argue that low sales numbers with high contribution amounts will make the books more of a rare collectors item.

I see it as there's not much interest outside of a very niche comics community and these books will fade into obscurity and you'll have a VERY expensive 80$ floppy with some stickers and a "mini poster" folded and sitting in a long box in the attic. Unsellable except at a loss, to the same group of ever shrinking paypigs.

Frog's $200 honeycomb boxes really distorted his campaign's total raised and per backer numbers. Selling 2500 of those netted $500,000, half the total campaign.

The eBay auction for the headsketch package that I'd posted about after not getting a single bid below it's original cost in 10 days finally sold a couple hours after Frog noticed it here. I think he mentioned it on his stream that night but not sure (fell asleep). It was sold at the $165 Buy-It-Now price when I woke up.

Stardust had sold anywhere from $25-50 on Ebay afterwards. Now it's a bit lower since leaving cg, but we had a 10 copies for $30 tier, and a lot of people flipped their $3 copies for a profit.

Edit: looks like someone paid $18 shipped on Stardust and $13.50 on Trixie on Ebay. Stardust was so cheap, $3-8 per copy, that it was easy to turn a profit. Surprised that copy of trixie sold so low--seller didnt list it near the $20 he spent. Maybe he just wanted it gone.
