Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I wonder if people who spend most of their time on the internet normally will be relatively sane after this, as they're already accustomed to such a routine. Is that why the Twitterati are overwhelmingly pro-lockdown?
I spend way too much time on the internet and have probably been among the worst at handling it. This is going in random_text.txt, but the reason I keep making MATI posts is because it's the only reliable way to palliate my anxiety attacks without biting the fuck out of my hand or going AGK on my computer setup.

DeWine started with bullshit that I'm sure was encouraging to normies. Pretending there hasn't been fuckery with numbers including one county calling him out a couple weeks ago. Keeps pretending this is as bad as 1918. There's no Fucking substance. Keeps fearmongering about the boomer shoah in FL and AZ (Pay no attention to DeBlasio and Fredo).

Wear your placebo masks everywhere no matter the alert. You're gonna kill grandma you selfish cunt! Made some statement about financial impact of renewed lockdown that sounded like a threat. Literal "You're gonna kill grandma!" fucking lol.

This is such bullshit. He's rambling about fucking nothing. Blah blah our unity is our strength

I agree Governor we do need to make sacrifices, like sacrificing politicians in Minecraft.

0/10 I would not have sex with DeWine

His twitter is filled with disappoint mask shills. Mean while, all of the actual daily numbers continue to decline across the state. There were damn near no increases in south western Ohio today. Other than the cases from previous months they use to pad the daily numbers. I did like his line about doubling cases not being related to almost doubling testing numbers. Does he think we're all his stupid paid twits?

The state, as a whole, had 6 new cases and 7 new hospitalizations. Across a state of almost 12 million. I wonder if the White House cutting the CDC out has anything to do with this. I have a feeling that the HHS is going fraud hunting, especially after Florida.

I may have gotten sneezed on while in the checkout line at the Mart of Wal today. I say may have, because I didn't even notice it, I was in the whole -unloading the cart and trying to remember what I forgot to get -zone. The person I was shopping with noticed that the unmasked guy in line behind me sneezed and didn't cover it at all. If I get Stealth Covid from a sneeze I didn't even notice... actually that sounds like something that would happen to me.

As for kids going back to school or nah, have they figured out if the germs linger on surfaces yet? All I hear about is kids not transmitting it to other kids, but if a parent has it and touches their kid's clothes/supplies, then another kid touches that stuff and goes home and their family touches their stuff... Personally I don't care, do whatever but I foresee a lot of stories about how someone got the Covid and have absolutely no idea how this happened but then someone points out the obvious.

Trump Administration wisely strips CDC control of Coronavirus data: information will now be sent to central DC database.

This undoubtedly coming on the heels of the news out of Florida of state labs there cooking the numbers of confirmed cases to a huge degree of discrepancies. Some of them are just straight-up not counting negative test results, leading to 100% positive test numbers.

Slap my ass with rainbows galore, but I really hope some fraud gets blown open. The media needs to be knocked down several pegs with the fearmongery before every damn state is back into a lockdown. The Chicken Little nonsense needs to stop, and fast.

I saw on the news that Germany will allow Swedes to enter their country again. Meanwhile, the US is closing back down.

It lends credence to the multiple strains theory. I think the strain that swept through Italy a couple of months ago is different that what is in Europe now, and is also most likely different than what is in the US.
I think it's more of the fact that the US is more populous and/or bigger than Italy, Sweden, and so on. 328.2 million vs UK's 66.65 or Sweden's 10.23 million. But I'm just throwing a theory.

10 shots, 7 misses, 3 hits, approximately. The first shot, she flinched and fired while aiming high and left. The subsequent shots, panic sets in, she keeps flinching and doesn't know where to hold. The suspect is blading his torso and is difficult to hit. She keeps shooting high and to the left. As the suspect's hand grabs her gun, she finally scores one hit, probably to the lower abdomen judging by how he hunches, and then, she finds that her weapon has not cycled because she fired it while the slide was immobilized by the suspect's hand. Fortunately for this officer, the suspect did not maintain a firm grip on the weapon and attack with his other hand. Once she regained retention of the weapon, she stepped back, cleared the malfunction... and then missed three more times before finally putting two kill shots into him.

A revolver won't fix this. In fact, it will make it worse because of the anticipation of the recoil producing flinch. There is one device I can think of on the market that can fix this. It’s called the MantisX. It's a little light rail attachment for a pistol that uses an accelerometer to tell you exactly what you're doing wrong.

Someone else I know IRL just died of COVID-19. He had pneumonia and kidney failure.

COVID-19 patients present to the ER with fever, dry cough, and shortness of breath. Body aches are common. When the ER docs put a pulse oximeter on these patients, they can see that they're deoxygenating. Their O2 saturation is dropping rapidly. Someone with normal respiration and pulse has an O2 sat of greater than 95%. These patients are below 90% and dropping rapidly. Some of them are below 70% and turning blue in the face. When they go to perform lab work and tests on these patients, this is what they generally find:
  • Hypokalemia (low blood potassium)
  • Abnormal AST/ALT levels (liver enzymes are messed up)
  • High ferritin (there are lots of iron storage proteins floating freely in the blood)
  • High troponin (usually, this is indicative of heart damage)
  • High C-reactive protein (lots of inflammation)
  • High D-dimer (lots of breakdown products indicative of blood clots)
  • Lymphopenia (low lymphocytes)
  • Thrombocytopenia (low platelets)
  • Albuminuria (albumin in urine)
  • Hematuria (blood in urine)
SARS-CoV-2 does the following things to the human body:
  • It down-regulates ACE2, leading to an excess of Angiotensin II and a cascade of AT1R-promoted inflammation, oxidative stress, fibrosis, and coagulopathy.
  • It may attack cells through the CD147 receptor as well.
  • It promotes excess aldosterone secretion, leading to hypokalemia.
  • It decimates T lymphocytes in the body, leading to lymphopenia.
  • It reduces interferon and blunts the innate immune response.
  • It promotes endothelial dysfunction and reduces nitric oxide bioavailability by interfering with its synthesis.
  • It causes abnormalities in iron metabolism.
  • It interferes with lipid metabolism and the urea cycle.
  • It can promote cell-to-cell fusion and the formation of giant, multinucleated cells.
  • It promotes cytokine storms with a very severe inflammatory profile dominated by up-regulation of IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α, among other things.
And, from those basic mechanisms, this is how COVID-19 actually manifests (some of these complications are much rarer than others):
  • Endotheliitis
  • Viremia
  • Sepsis
  • Encephalitis
  • Meningitis
  • Guillain-Barre
  • Rash
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Coagulopathy
  • Hypoxemia
  • Seizure
  • Stroke
  • Delirium
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Heart attack
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Pulmonary edema
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Hemoptysis
  • Bilateral pneumonia
  • Myositis and Rhabdomyolitis
  • Mild hepatitis
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Viral colitis
  • Orchitis
  • Kawasaki disease (in children)
This isn't just "throwing shit at the wall". That isn't even a comprehensive list of what it can do. Because of the ubiquity of its entry receptors, SARS-CoV-2 attacks a wide variety of human cell lines and it does so voraciously. It can actually do all of those things, or a combination of any of them. In fact, COVID-19 is so variable in its effects, people sometimes present to the ER with gastrointestinal or neurological symptoms without any respiratory signs whatsoever, and then later develop pneumonia. There is a possibility that SARS-CoV-2 may even attack bone marrow and the immature blood cells within.

SARS-CoV-2 colonizes the body through a number of routes. It can land on the olfactory nerve and enter the brain directly from there. It can land in the eyes and cause conjunctivitis. It can be breathed in and colonize the respiratory tract. It can even colonize the GI tract before anything else.

COVID-19, as a disease process, proceeds approximately like this in severe and critical cases:
  1. SARS-CoV-2 enters the body through any of a number of routes.
  2. The virus gets into the lining of blood vessels and causes endotheliitis and viremia, infecting the endothelium and circulating in the bloodstream.
  3. The virus suppresses the innate immune response by reducing T cell populations and inhibiting interferon, allowing it to replicate with impunity.
  4. In the process of down-regulating ACE2 and increasing Ang II, the virus promotes tons of inflammation, oxidative stress, fibrosis, and coagulopathy.
  5. Nitric oxide, which ordinarily has a lifespan of a few seconds in the body, is reduced in a number of ways, such as by production of peroxynitrite due to the superoxide release promoted by Ang II, and also by SARS-CoV-2's interference with carbamoyl phosphate.
  6. The body's iron metabolism goes crazy from the lack of nitric oxide signaling and from the inflammation. Free iron is released, causing even more cytotoxicity and sequestering even more nitric oxide.
  7. Endothelial permeability increases due to the eNOS dysfunction and all the ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 floating around.
  8. Capillaries start leaking into the alveoli, precipitating pulmonary edema and pneumonitis.
  9. The endothelium flips the fuck out and thinks that it's damaged. Micro-clotting starts occurring everywhere to try and "repair" the damage. Antiphospholipid antibodies are often present in the blood. The endothelium releases von Willebrand factor to try and patch what it perceives as a bunch of holes everywhere. Platelets are urged by the body to form clots.
  10. The micro-clotting triggers pulmonary shunt in the lungs and the patient starts deoxygenating.
  11. Hypoxic damage to various vital organs starts to occur, leading to multiple organ failure.
  12. In the case of a hypoxic brain, seizure, collapse, abnormal posturing, and the fencing response may occur, just like a drowning victim, but this only happens to about 1 in 200 confirmed, symptomatic cases.
  13. Viremia passes the virus into these organs and promotes inflammation in each of them. It is sometimes difficult to tell apart hypoxic damage and direct inflammation caused by the virus.
  14. There is inflammation everywhere and the lungs are starting to scar over.
  15. Sepsis and kidney failure starts to set in.
  16. Blood clots promoted by the virus can have lethal consequences, like stroke, heart attack, or pulmonary embolism.
  17. When death occurs, it is usually because a great big clot went where it wasn't supposed to, or because disseminated intravascular coagulation occurred. In extreme cases, severe hypoxemia or multiple organ failure can lead to death as well.
The typical course of the virus is about a week of flu-like symptoms followed by a latent phase of a day or two which then leads to the crazy cytokine storm death spiral described above, which usually lasts about 4 days to a week before the patient recovers or expires. The time from infection to death/recovery can be from 11 days all the way out to a month or two. Some people have been symptomatic for longer than three months. When they recover, many people have lingering lung and brain damage and chronic fatigue, just like SARS.

COVID-19 is not a "lung disease". It is a blood and vascular disease first and a lung disease second. It causes inflammation and clotting. The way it's treated is by giving patients supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation and then putting them on blood thinners, trying carefully to balance anticoagulation against hemorrhaging, while also trying to suppress the inflammation and opportunistic bacterial infections with antivirals, steroids, and antibiotics.

Everything I dredged up about the virus came from peer-reviewed articles in reputable medical journals.

This is the lung out of a critically-ill COVID-19 patient who needed a lung transplant:

This lump of hemorrhaging scar tissue came from the chest of a 20 year old Hispanic female. The tissue is basically unrecognizable as a human lung. It looks like jerky.

People have a choice. They can wear a mask and look like a cuck, or they can have meatloaf lung. Vanity or health. 80 cent mask, or huge medical bills. Pick one.

@eternal dog mongler could probably vouch for the scientific accuracy of most of this.

You do realize that the masks aren't a guarantee from catching the damn thing or giving it to people either, right? Virus particles are so small that they can easily escape the masks ... Especially when dumb people are using their cloth masks and not washing them (which is TOTALLY happening, let's be real here). The masks may even be detrimental to overcoming the pandemic, honestly: Imagine someone touching their dirty fucking mask without realizing how dirty it is and then they touch everything in the grocery store. Considering how the virus lingers on hard surfaces, I don't think I'm out of the realm of reality by expressing that the masks could cause more harm than good in a lot of cases.

Almost nobody is denying the existence of this virus, or what it can do to people (and what it has done to people). Statistically speaking, though, the odds are in most people's favor. People want to live their lives normally again, and they're not evil for wanting that.

Also, let's keep in mind that the narrative about the masks has been consistently inconsistent. Of course people are more reluctant and annoyed to wear them now. Can't say that I blame them at all.

A lot of these cloth masks are a bitch to breathe in as well. I know so many people who can't wear the damn things because they can't breathe in them. And if they got the medical grade masks, they'd be called assholes for taking the equipment from hospitals. You just can't win with this.

How many cloth masks are in your household? I got three that gets thrown into a bucket of soapy water and bleach after the end of the day.

What I don't like about the medical masks is that I see them sold around everywhere and they are made in China. You motherfucking cunts! Those shit are infected!

VirusF___ery has ruined my family. I have been a skeptic since nearly the beginning based on my refusal to be swayed by the fear porn. Everyone else (save maybe the former goth, who just DGAF anymore) has bought into everything.

I was supposed to visit my parents, two states away, on their recommendation that I get out of isolation and "stop being preoccupied with politics." A few weeks ago they gave me an out because they didn't want someone political to mess with their chill.

Due to the situation with my uncle (a few pages back) Mom asked if she could join me on the ride back down. Initially I agreed, but realized I'd have to be stuck with her for nearly two days with no privacy and unable to freely listen to counter-narratives while with her. I told her my misgivings and she said my "right wing mentality" is "alienating my family."

I'm sorry, but *I* wasn't the one that demanded that we shut down the economy, isolate, social distance and wear those stupid, useless masks. I'm the one alienating my family? I was in NorCal nearly two months ago and I had the opportunity to visit my uncle--I really should have--but at the time my aunt was scared shitless that he would catch the coof from me and die. Surprise, surprise--I didn't visit and he's dying anyway. Way to accuse me of something I had no power over!

She called me again and gave me *another* out. The fear bug kicked into high gear and this time her "out" was that she didn't know if I was a carrier and she wouldn't want her or my father's death on my conscience. (siiiiigggghhhh). I know I effed up when I turned down the offer to drive her down, but this was just a low blow. I was horrified.

"Are you saying you don't want to hug your only son?"

FUCK. THIS. VIRUS.

Related feels video.

Statewide nothing is happening here bu

This is a serious issue I have with the vast majority of 'mask culture' currently. I'll rock my bandanas whenever is a mask is needed but you wont catch me fuckin dead wearing some bullshit made in China. Meanwhile, a few shops that demand masks around here are kicking people out for not wearing masks that loop around your ears, IE the shitty surgical ones manufactured in China.

Funny story, when I used to work in a medical diagnostics lab (from a *ERHEM* Chinese based company) they made us wear a masks after I caught pneumonia working there. To this day, I don't have conclusive proof that my catching it was the direct result of working in the BSL-2 lab; the urgent care doctor diagnosed me with pneumonia but the office later called me and said I DIDN'T have pneumonia.

But the masks they made us wear were these piece-of-shit ear loop napkins that aren't rated to protect you from any type of microbes. It was pure safety theater.

That same company also forced me to get a flu shot, which never sat well with me. Hated that job, hated that work culture and I chuckle to myself that vacancies created in that company remain unfilled for months at a time.

I have the urge to slap anyone saying the words "new normal" in the news. It's not normal to wear a face mask everywhere if you are not sick or making a fashion statement. But just because we have a global pandemic we made concessions but this is no way the way things will go in the future. The Wuflu is going away and with it the requirement of everyone wearing masks.

ALSO DON'T CUCK TO CHINA
