I had low expectations to begin with, but I thought surely there must be some small bit of affection for Heather buried deep down somewhere. In any case, I can understand that a stressful situation would make a person to find refugee in drugs, sex, or any similar activity, but they don't display it for the world to see. Exactly this. It is about misogyny. He lives within walking/bus distance of over two dozen retail stores and restaurants. He tried to get a job (pre-coof) stocking shelves at either Publix or Fresh Market but was rejected. After that he just stopped trying.
