Greg's not wrong, it doesn't get more strong or independant than being his fan. Just it's not in any way a positive. It's strength that in the face of so much evidence of someone being absolutely worthless, you still adore them for absolutely no discernible reason that is based in reality even if it's the most goddamn stupid decision you could make. Very independent to, when increasingly less rational people keep bailing on a toxic narcissist, to stick to your idiotic principles and stand by them regardless of what connotations about your own moral health this would raise. These contextually aren't admirable qualities.

Perhaps this is me being optimistic but I would imagine that despite her complete lack of life skills, Lainey may very well be doing her own period of self-reflection considering just how far shit's fallen from the "glory days" she had with Greg. This is of course assuming that Lainey actually did move out and isn't still stuck inside that hellhole with her two malnourished and neglected children.

What people seem to underestimate is just how steep the age difference between 17 and 25 is. Lainey may have the personality of a doormat, but that still doesn't exempt her from growing up mentally. She has gotten into public arguments with Greg on Twitter in the past, which is something that we never would've expected when she first entered the fold back in 2012. Hell, she took it upon herself to groom minors in the first place because Greg was too bloody incompetent to do it on his own.

Yes, it was most likely inspired by Greg's orders, but keep one thing in mind here: Greg as an adult male in his 30s has absolutely no idea how to approach a teenage girl without looking like a creep anymore. That would imply that Greg had to cede some modicum of power to continue his delusional sex fantasies. It was specifically because Lainey approached them in the first place that Billie and Sarah even had a much bigger attachment to her. Hell, Billie and Sarah both had far more venom to spare for Greg than for Lainey despite Lainey being the one who did the actual grooming.
