"While the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) respects every American’s right to protest peacefully, violence and civil unrest will not be tolerated. Violent anarchists have organized events in Portland over the last several weeks with willful intent to damage and destroy federal property, as well as injure federal officers and agents. These criminal actions will not be tolerated.

CBP agents had information indicating the person in the video was suspected of assaults against federal agents or destruction of federal property. Once CBP agents approached the suspect, a large and violent mob moved towards their location. For everyone’s safety, CBP agents quickly moved the suspect to a safer location for further questioning. The CBP agents identified themselves and were wearing CBP insignia during the encounter. The names of the agents were not displayed due to recent doxing incidents against law enforcement personnel who serve and protect our country.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its components will continue to work tirelessly to reestablish law and order. The Federal Protective Service (FPS) is the lead government agency that CBP personnel are supporting. CBP personnel have been deployed to Portland in direct support of the Presidential Executive Order and the newly established DHS Protecting American Communities Task Force (PACT). CBP law enforcement personnel have been trained and cross designated under FPS legal authority 40 U.S.C. § 1315."

CBP just put out a statement concerning that "Use your words" video. It was real; they're the ones who arrested him.

Wait... they used ICE to arrest them?

They can work within 100 miles of the ocean, right? Portland falls in that range. Hah.

The 100 miles thing is of boarders and its 100 miles from any boarder is a so-called (by the ACLU) "constitution free zone", so places like all of HI, MI, and other states are in it. I think BP can work outside the 100 miles, but I can't find any info on it, and I would assume there is some law that allows under direction of the president to order federal police agencies to police areas in the interest of national security and to protect federal assets if needed (outside of the insurrection act).

1) If you were you'd be out durning the day when most of them happen
2) Even if you show up at night, then leave when asked/ordered to leave so you don't get gassed/peppered bullet because the "protest" turned in to unlawful assembly or a riot.

To offer another story of perspective and a reminder to stay grounded in these times; I was once at a roller rink a year or so back for a family member's birthday, and they had these arcade machines. I was playing one cause I was like a crippled person when trying to use roller skates, and some little black kid came up to me and asked if he could borrow a couple quarters to play the racing game next to the cabinet I was playing. I obliged, and after he got done, a big sister of his (whom was also black) reprimanded him in a reasonable manner, and gave me back the money I had given to him out of her own pocket, even though I said it was fine and she didn't have to pay me back. She insisted, however, and I obliged. Stories like this really do keep some people from going too far.
