He literally just shrank the wave form to play more quickly, which in the past would increase the pitch of everything, but most modern software now compensates for that and keeps the pitch the same but still plays the audio faster, so you have to actually turn that feature off now.
It's like spinning a record faster or slower, remember how it makes different kinds of screeching sounds, or shit sounds like a chipmunk? Or you fast forward a cassette and it gets all high pitched and shit?
