It's all a "negative trait" sort of perspective. An "I don't have..." and then insisting it's because "someone else has..." That's kind of the very definition of gaslighting. It's the two plus two equals five, and it's O'Brien's assertion that it is power for power's sake. And it's impervious to argument, since you are making up an unfalsifiable postion and reality for another, and any denial just means they are a bad actor and lying, or unaware of their true nature in need of "education" (or punishment, I suppose). It annot be approached rationally. As well, the meanings of words and actions as well as the fundamental goals, are constantly shifting, sometimes becoming their opposite in the same sentence.

The whole racket is designed as a kafkatrap, and its only purpose is domination and abuse. A lot of it, if looking at the mechanics of the thing, is that of the stereotypical abusive husband and the brain-addled, confused, and terrified of making a mistake beaten wife. Basically, domestic abuse (or psychological torture) writ large, baked into the cake of an ideology which is disturbingly powerful, accepted, and unchallengeable, all with the legitimacy provided by academic, media, medicine, and political actors, not to mention the pederasts of "respected" celebrity music and movie.
