The weird thing is that the officer who killed George Floyd
has been charged with murder and manslaughter. This isn't one of those cases where the cop gets a paid suspension and quietly shifted to some other police department, this piece of shit is getting charged and will be at the mercy of the legal system. It's a shame that this happened at all in the first place but the fact that there's a conviction should be a positive sign that this sort of abuse of power won't be tolerated anymore. But the rioting still happened.
Personally I blame a lot of the reaction probably coming from people going crazy from lockdown and just looking for an excuse, any excuse, to act out in anger and frustration. I see riots as akin to a community having a mental breakdown and trashing your home, which might feel cathartic at the time, but in the end, you're the one stuck with the mess and you have to clean it up and lick your own wounds. You acted out in a way that was clearly a cry for help, but it was a self-destructive one. Riots are worse because there's a lot more collateral damage, and a lot more outsiders looking to politicize the events to their own ends. Mob mentality is a helluva drug.
All this to say that peepeepoopoo brony man is pretty much right and it's nice that he acknowledged that a lot of the local businesses hurt by the riots are owned and operated by working class minorities (and just the working class in general), which is a point that seems to be viewed as concern trolling. Thank you for that little bit of nuance, peepeepoopoo brony man.
