At least they're self aware.

Why are these people so obsessed with essential oils?! I get they smell good, but come on.

Witchblr. Probably one of the more annoying subcultures on the internet. And the sad reality? It really doesn't have to be that way. It's just generic pseudo-pagan stuff that most normal people wouldn't even try out to its full extent anyways, so having something as a mini hobby wouldn't be bad on its own.

The main problem is that some of these people are legitimately out of their mind. The hexing the moon thing was pretty out there, but the people defending it as a "religion" and claiming discrimination are on another planet compared to normal people.

What most of these people don't get is that their subculture is like any other one and is not immune from criticism. You say crazy shit, people will call you out on it. Your subculture means nothing to them. They aren't any more special or different from those people who also claim stuff like otherkin for example. Simply put, normal people are going to find you weird (and maybe crazy). Just because people don't get your subculture doesn't mean you have to go full sperging. Just enjoy your life and do what you want (as long as you don't hurt anyone of course).

But obviously we wouldn't have a thread if people already did this, would we? This subculture is prone to driving in weirdos and other people who might not be quite right in the head. It's inevitable, but anyone who just liked the stuff on a surface level would treat it as that: something fun to do but nothing super serious. However, so much of witchblr just enables already unstable people and their delusions.

To be fair, the vindictive, old testament style gods probably appeal to them because they reflect their own selective empathy. That explains why they can be all about love and peace one moment and punishment and torture the next. Every man who isn't an asexual doormat reminds them of their abusive ex boyfriends, so they use their pseudoreligion to back up them taking out their anger on the concept of men in general. They only care about earthly, materialistic punishments and rewards, and that's where their philosophy begins and ends.

They probably fantasize about Artemis bringing down divine judgement upon any man who looks at them for a split second.

The idea of the "divine feminine" allows them to treat their own image with the same sanctity as Catholics venerate Mary, and this reflects in the fact that they hate it when women are sexualized.

Religion's entire purpose is to encourage their worshipers to become better people in the name of a higher power. All these people do, though, is exalt their own ego. It's a twisted mockery of religion spawned from decadence and complacency. And there's even a book set in a cyberpunk universe like that. These people are proof that American style Protestantism is always one step away from mutating into nonsense.

It shows they're so starved of spirituality that they need to splatter a thin paint of syncretic mumbo jumbo on top of the exact same secular humanist drivel that is repeated ad nauseam on TV. And of course, they only take the fun parts of what they're copying from.

When you put it like that ... shit, I feel kind of sorry for them. It sounds like such a hollow, aimless way to live. Investing crystals and candles with power because you've got nothing else to believe in.

Historical hedge witchery, of the "making wax dolls and scratching charms and stuff" type, is a pretty interesting topic. It overlaps a lot with medicine, brewing, and other domestic semi-specialized arts; in England, at least, the "cunning woman" was the gal you didn't quite trust but who might have a better-than-average knowledge of herbs or give you an extra boost of good luck if you paid her well. It was superstition, but it filled a vital niche, especially in terms of healthcare. It seems to me that the real heirs of that school of witchcraft would be anyone with useful skills who sells them to their neighbors or uses them for the good of others--the gal you buy homemade jam from, the one who's taken a bunch of Red Cross and EMT courses just in case, that sort of thing.

But lauding your own period blood (and something did die for that, eejit--the lining of your uterus!) and raging on Tumblr while conducting imaginary conversations with the gods of a long-dead culture you have no connection with ... That is sad with a capital Dying Alone.

Why is monkey censored?
You know for whatever reason occultist males tend to be the hard race relations type, one is superior to the other (from black power to wignats channeling nazis, both conspiritards). Men's magic bullshit tends to funnel into that for some reason.

There are some old hippies who do actual chakra alignment and focus on horrorscopes along with the occasional guy who got into it to get laid too.

Well I'm glad she at least uses a pad. Most of the witches I've come across are free bleeders.
It's just a coincidence. I know you "witches" want to think that you can control the universe but that is not the case.
But hey, at least that last one acknowledges the internal logic of the fantasy. That's more than most.
I'll take my rainbows now.

I wonder what the ancient Greeks would have thought about these Tumblr people utilizing their Gods to fit their agenda.
Artemis probably doesn't know what a TERF is. Also, she's not lesbian. I'm not an expert on mythology or anything, but didn't she have a male lover that she didn't have sex with to stay a virgin? I might be wrong.
Ew. They probably masturbate while reading Percy Jackson.
Artemis is a virgin though. . . Are they saying lesbian sex isn't real?
Is this what people into Greek mythology felt when all the percy jackson fans started talking like experts about the Greek Gods? There's just so much disregard for actual characterizations of the Gods/Goddesses that they supposedly worship, much of their headcannon about the Gods have no evidence in any of the records we know about. Why is Artemis a lesbian when she was one of the virgin goddess? It's honestly kind of messed up since Artemis was the protector of young girls before they matured, goes along with sexless virgin goddess. She basically would look after young girls before they made the transition into adulthood seen in her connection with the initiation ritual The Brauronia for young girls before marriage.
The cult of Artemis Brauronia was especially important to women. Artemis was worshipped here as the protectress of childbirth, and women who had successfully given birth dedicated a set of clothing to Artemis. The clothes of women who died in childbirth were dedicated to Iphigeneia. The Athenians celebrated a major state-sponsored festival every 4 years called the Brauronia that involved a procession from Athens to the sanctuary at Brauron. We also learn from a combination of ancient sources and artistic evidence that young Athenian girls between the ages of 7 and 10 (there is some disagreement about the age) "played the bear" for Artemis by serving as attendants in the sanctuary for a year and participating in a ritual that involved dancing or running around an altar. This ritual service, known as the arkteia ("arktos" = bear) is usually interpreted as a rite of passage preparing the girls for puberty and marriage.
Her having zero connection with sexuality is purposeful given her realm of protection and what she represented in the Greek world. Lesbian Artemis is also weird since she looks after childbirth too, y'know what happens between a man and a women, with her allowed to give mercy kills to mother or child with her arrows (used to explain death during childbirth or miscarriages).

Also, there's no way that Aphrodite would be okay with most troons with her being Goddess of Beauty, she'd probably recoil at any of them trying to come near her. She's also one of the biggest shippers in history because only the couples she liked were okay and anything would be forcefully destroyed by her to "fix" it.

There are no witches because magic isn't real.

White witches with dreads are bad? Soo... You somehow know 'magic' but you don't know actual cultures? Black people did not create 'dreads'. It has been around for a long time and Polish people were the ones to be known for it mainly.

And shouldn't a witch be a witch if they just know magic? That's what literally makes a witch.

Btw, apparently theres stuff happening where a 'baby witch' hexed the moon and fawn- I've been seeing that bullark on my Twitter timeline and it's pure cringe, not to mention people just causally talking about 'hexing' their exes. As well as people making 'projection' jars while protesting................ I am not kidding.
