The AK-47 is no more spray and pray than THAT most glorious rifle ever made: The FN FAL 7.62mm S, L, FUCKING, R!

Hitting off a round that size even in quick-fire semi-auto probably isn't a good idea without shouldering it first. They do do folding stock AK's which are highly illegal as I understand it (and prolly a good reason for that), and maybe something like that might be considered spray and pray, but standard issue AK-47 not so much, even those newer rifles of that model that took the smaller ammo (5.56mm is it?) and then them going back to 7.62mm again, well, I think they are pretty accurate up to a coupla hundred metres or so. Hardly spray and pray. If you can fire one, you better shoulder it, and if you do that you better aim it.

If "round that size" means the AK's 7.62x39, it's very much an "intermediate caliber", like the .223/5.56x45 that the AR uses, and the 5.45x39 that the later AK-74 used. Each has about half the energy of a boring old .308 or .30-06 deer rifle and can be easily hip-fired (or shoulder fired by 10yr old girls).

Folding stocks on an AK or any other rifle are very common throughout the US. What you might be thinking of is the prohibition against putting certain rifle features on pistols, including stocks and vertical foregrips. Meaning if you build an AK or AR as a pistol (which allows you a shorter than 16" barrel), you can't have a stock any more, folding or not.

The 5.56x45 isn't a lesser caliber than the 7.62x39, it just trades a bit of weight for velocity. When you hear people talking about the 7.62 as some kind of step up, they're either thinking of the 7.62x51 NATO (ie .308 Winchester) which is a true rifle caliber, or they've confused the two rounds.

There are several "7.62" rounds, including the 7.62x54R which is basically the Soviets' .308. It's the round used by the "sniper version" of the AK (the Dragunov/SVD). And just like going from an AR-15 (.223/5.56) to an AR-10 (.308/7.62), the Dragunov looks like an AK but needs a larger receiver and longer action to fit the longer round (54mm long vs. 39).

Maybe I just don't understand it because I don't agree with the first assumption that I sympathize with the protest. Although Crime overall is still a problem in Detroit, despite it being in a currently Dem ran state and a historically Dem ran city the Mayor and the police chief have been keeping the riots down, and showing any one who wants to cause trouble they are running on a "no nonsense" policy. Resources will be better spent on Chicago, Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, and other places that are allowing the "protests" to turn more violent.
