Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

well those were mostly with joke candidates...

they also like Jesus and dont want to see him be defaced...

Trump will win over a couple of % of the mexican vote. The Dems dont even talk about a spic VP. they want a Negro.

Dems seem to be riding on stealing the suburban mom/grandma vote, which could work. Trump is actually doing better with Latinos than he was even in 2016—and even then he blew libshit projections that none would support his tough on illegal immigration stance. But what can you expect from a party that thinks all Latinos are just different types of Mexicans? They don't know the difference between a Colombian, a Venezuelan, a Cuban, and a Dominican. They just see "Latino/Hispanic" and think they're one huge monolith that will keep ascribing to their plantation politics.

im not sure about that... the fear is rising and making BLM posts on facebook doesnt mean that you vote Dems.

I sure hope you're right, but it's really the 65+ vote that seems to be turning away from Trump. And I understand it, to a degree. My grandparent is in a nursing home and has been stuck in basically his apartment for four months. They're fucking mad at the world and they get all their news from the television screens blaring at them all day. The more violence that happens, the more it will temper that. And a covid vaccine coming forward successfully will change a lot of things.

I also ascribe to the basic idea that old people complain a shit ton but still do the same thing when it comes to making decisions, so it's possible the final vote won't reflect whinging to the people that call them on the phone to ask their opinions. Who knows, really.

The coronavirus pandemic, an ongoing recession, healthcare woes and tensions between the United States and China have combined to put one critical policy area on the backburner ahead of the 2020 election: housing.

But maybe not for much longer.

President Trump has said multiple times recently that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden would destroy America’s suburbs. So what would the former vice president’s housing plan do?

Its most basic tenet is getting rid of zoning regulations that put a stranglehold on the supply of housing, which sends prices skyrocketing.

“Exclusionary zoning has for decades been strategically used to keep people of color and low-income families out of certain communities,” Biden writes.

His language borrows from a bill introduced by Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., that would withhold federal funds for community development and transportation infrastructure from localities that don’t reform their zoning regulations to allow for more housing to be built.

Biden would also “give states and localities the technical assistance and planning support they need to eliminate exclusionary zoning policies and other local regulations that contribute to sprawl.”

Zoning laws are one way that wealthy suburbs stay wealthy, so that's part of the reason behind the claim that Biden would destroy the suburbs.

Another key pillar of his plan would vastly expand Section 8 housing vouchers. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, there are more than 17 million American households that qualify for the rental assistance program but don't receive help simply because Congress doesn’t allocate enough money to it.

Section 8 housing vouchers started as part of the Nixon-era National Housing Act with the intention of moving people out of government housing and into private homes subsidized by vouchers.

The biggest problem the program has faced, besides underfunding, is discrimination by landlords who refuse to accept vouchers.

Several states have passed “source of income” laws that prohibit landlords from discriminating against voucher-holders, but the budget center still estimates that only about one-third of voucher-holders are protected by law. Biden wants to enact a federal law to prohibit landlords nationwide from discriminating against people who use the Section 8 system.

Researchers from Columbia University’s Center on Poverty and Social Policy ran an analysis for Vox on Biden’s Section 8 expansion plan and found that it would reduce poverty by 22 percent, and child poverty by 34 percent.

Biden also wants to create a Homeowner Bill of Rights, protect tenants from eviction by providing them legal assistance, establish tax incentives to build affordable housing, and enact a number of other policies he thinks will make housing more affordable.

From his perspective, it's probable that none of those initiatives amount to "destroying" the suburbs. Residents of wealthier neighborhoods, who typically argue that lower-income housing drags down their property values, might disagree.

Looking at things the way they are, right now, what would you guys asay are Trump's odds at fucking this demented old coot into the ground? I'm looking to bet money on Trump's victory, but timing counts for a lot when it comes to odds making it worthwhile. I won $1,000 on Trump winning in 2016 (I could have won $25,000, but I lost my nerve at the last minute and dropped my bet...one of my greatest regrets), but as the incumbent, he has a natural advantage. That, and everything else wrong with Biden. Do you guys think his odds will only improve whenever Biden is finally cornered into picking a VP, or will that not make any difference at all?
Biden's ability to win depends entirely on whether he can portray various different (and often mutually contradictory) versions of himself to all the demographics that make up the Democrats' big tent. He needs blacks to think that he'll give them more free money and a license to commit as much crime as they want. He needs boomers to think that he'll bring back law and order. He needs workers to think that he'll bring jobs back to the US and raise wages, while he needs donors to think that he'll make it even easier for them to outsource cheap labor. He needs women to think that he'll help them get more protection and job and education opportunities, but he needs troons to think that he'll push policies that place them above actual women. He needs hispanics to think that he's on board with treating them as the new first-class citizens, while he needs white people to think that he'll do more for them than Trump has (hi @Arm Pit Cream ).

Can he manage to do this? It depends on whether he can keep each group from seeing the versions of himself he's presenting to other groups. The way that his allies in big tech have been consolidating their control will make that easier, but there's a lot of ways it can go wrong. If he fails, there'll be a big enthusiasm gap that causes the people he's countong on to just not show up at the polls.

Fox has really taken a turn to the left lately. They smell blood in the water, I guess.

Apparently bidens campaign is 'suppressing the hispanic vote'

This will totally end well

This sounds to me like one of two things: either (1) the Biden campaign is just badly organized or (2) there are deep divisions between the direction of the Florida dems and the DNC. I think it could actually be some of both. There have been a number of local articles in Florida recently about how the more corporate overlords of the Democratic party in Florida have restricted access to things like statistical voting tools to a lot of more Bernie-esque candidates because they're candidates who are fundamentally rocking the boat. But I can also see the Biden campaign just floundering in terms of organizing their boots-on-the-ground presence. They didn't have any big money coming in until they funneled all the ActBlue money via the DNC through BLM donations in the past month or two, so I doubt they had a scalable presence in a lot of battleground states. That combined with not having a centralized effort at the head of the campaign, but rather a number of corporate overseers working in different directions while the actual candidate was kept in the basement as a dusty marionette, could explain why they just can't organize properly. Saying they're suppressing the Hispanic vote is just a way to put it so that it reflects poorly on the leadership with a racist dogwhistle attached.

The I4 corridor they love to harp on about is also less of a stronghold than the activists in Florida like to think of it as. It's a lot of religious working class Puerto Ricans, and young Puerto Rican people from the area have told me themselves that it's not liable to be as solid of a dem voting block as they consider (and this was in 2016, before Trump won Florida). I think the DNC just doesn't have a structured game plan in place and is relying on their surrogates in the media and institutions to win this for them by raising Trump hate to a fever pitch, combined with a distaste for dealing with local dems who are more and more at odds with the corporate leadership.

>in Florida

This is how insane and broken the Dems have gotten now. They're actively trying or they are stupidly going to lose Florida possibly out of revenge for the Hispanics (Cubans especially) not voting for them and giving the state the blue vote. The racial bias is astounding, but unsurprising.

Also: “'The [Coordinated Campaign of Florida] is suppressing the Hispanic vote by removing Spanish-speaking organizers from Central Florida without explanation, which fails to confront a system of white-dominated politics we are supposed to be working against as organizers of a progressive party,' the letter adds."

"Fuck white people!" they cry out to their old white overlords in D.C.

I would guess a minor Trump victory at this point if you put a gun to my head, on par with or even slightly narrower than 2016. I base this prediction on nothing but gut instinct and a diminished but still intact faith in the goodness of the American people.

Just for the record, 2016 was not a minor victory. Trump won pretty much every swing state.

This is all true, but let's be real here.

Biden is riding on him being "not Trump."

Biding is riding on "everyone that votes Republican is a racist sexist homophobe."

Because if Trump wins in 2020, that's going to be the storyline: America STILL RACIST!

No, but his margins were very narrow, which is what I was driving at. Hillary’s margin in Minnesota (and possibly New Hampshire?) was quite narrow as well, to be fair to GEOTUS.

And Nevada was just as close as Minnesota, which was kind of surprising because the Dems were going on about the large number of Latinos voting early.

I like how the article is trying to present itself as being written by Joe Biden, and yet it consistently refers to Joe Biden in the third person. Either Joe Biden did not write this article, or Joe Biden likes to refer to himself in the third person like a fucking weirdo. Also he's going to work to protect and empower women, just, you know... Ignore all of those women that his son refuses to pay child support towards. Those aren't women, they're whores or whatever.

Rejoice, women and women of colour! Joe Biden, a white man, is here to save you!

His agenda for women: sexually harass and assault them and have everyone else just toss them under the bus and right into the garbage and blame their opponents for making up shit they literally talk about.

I'm Joe Biden, and Joe Biden would approve this message if Joe Biden didn't forget what that message was, or who Joe Biden was, only thing Joe Biden knows is how to say Joe Biden because Joe Biden has the mental prowess of a Magikarp now.

JOE BIDEN JOE BIDEN JOE BIDEN!
