I have to confess, I want it to be real, so I am leaning toward believing, but I am torn. It's hard for me to believe a father would get on stream with a bunch of strangers to confess the things he has. Then again, if he's desperate, perhaps he would.

Sounds like a genuine parent to me. I know that feeling, where you want them to be safe but you also understand they have to make mistakes to learn and grow as people. Him saying that he wants her to come home but to just go forward if she can't and don't stand still and rot. He's trying to get through to her, it's sad as fuck, but he's doing whatever he can to let her know she's not trapped there.
No parent is perfect but he's handling it as best he can and I really respect that.
