Donald Trump calls for delay to 2020 US presidential election

Donald Trump has called for November's presidential election to be postponed, saying increased postal voting could lead to fraud and inaccurate results.

He suggested a delay until people can "properly, securely and safely" vote.

There is little evidence to support Mr Trump's claims but he has long railed against mail-in voting which he has said would be susceptible to fraud

US states want to make postal voting easier due to public health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

In a tweet, Mr Trump said "universal mail-in voting" would make November's vote the "most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history" and a "great embarrassment to the USA".

Earlier this month, six US states were planning to hold "all-mail" ballot elections this November: California, Utah, Hawaii, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.

These states will automatically send postal ballots to all registered voters, which then have to be sent back or dropped off on election day - although some in-person voting is still available in certain limited circumstances.

About half of US states allow any registered voter to vote by post on request.

Critics of postal voting argue that people could vote more than once via absentee ballots and in person. Mr Trump has in the past said there was a risk of "thousands and thousands of people sitting in somebody's living room, signing ballots all over the place".

However, there is no evidence of widespread fraud, according to numerous nationwide and state-level studies over the years.

He's not gonna do it, I know he ain't, but I don't really agree with the idea of doing it anyways mostly because we have so many ways of voting other than mailing or going directly in the day of to go in there, I feel as if it is rather pointless to halt the election as a whole because of possible mail-in voting fraud when most people probably don't vote like that anyway (unless they have plants masquerading as different identities).

Unless he's trying to do this to sort of highlight how the Dems are using the lockdowns to justify the authoritarian policy, which again, is not really the best way to shine a light on that, it's a shitty idea.

Well, mail-in voting does lead to fraud, imagine if done on mass scale?

They always say no evidence of widespread voter fraud but there is evidence of both voter fraud and greater disqualification of mail-in-ballots where it has been tried.

No one should receive a mail-in-ballot they did not request and are not expecting.

My father received two mail-in-ballots for his dead wife(not my mother) one to his current residence and one at his PO Box.

The state knows she is dead. He had to go to prove it to deal with some things after her death two fucking years ago. Still two ballots were sent.

Dead cats are getting ballots.

Corpses nationwide are getting ballots because states refuse to clean their voter rolls up unless Judicial Watch has crawled up their ass and forced them to do it.

States like Maryland refuse to turn over those rolls to Judicial Watch even though they have been ordered by courts to do so.

This idea that there is no fraud potential is insane and only shows that the DNC believes mass mail in voting gives them an insurmountable edge.

I wonder if Trump coming out with this means he knows something they might not. He has to be aware that the date can only be changed through a bipartisan act of Congress which means it is not fucking happening.

His ploy might be to keep screaming about mail-in-voting so GOP voters get mobilized and make sure their shit gets counted or he could just be yelling at clouds.

Today should be fun. He should have announced this late tomorrow so they could meltdown all weekend.
He's definitely up to something. Trump is the master of exaggeratedly winding up with his right hand while short-jabbing you in the face with his left. It's an old boxer's trick that nobody falls for anymore and it shouldn't still be working...

...but it do.

>Wear a mask, it prevents transmission of the virus!
>No you can't go outside or to the beach or the gym even in a mask, you'll transmit the virus!
>You especially can't protest!
>What? No, the rioters are wearing masks, they can't transmit the virus.
>See? As long as they're wearing masks, everything is fine.
>No, you still can't go to the gym.
>No, we can't have in-person voting, that will transmit the virus!

You know, some days it's really easy to understand why people snap and start pistol-whipping people who tell them to wear a mask.

The concern isn't that real people will or will not vote via mail-in ballots. It's that not real people will vote using mail-in ballots.

Lol it’s in the constitution. Congress can’t do shit about it. Trump can’t do shit about it. Start the amendment processes (which requires a national vote oops) or stfu

The constitution states Congress gets to set the time for the Election, not when the election has to be held specifically. The formal date is simple statutory law, not Constitutional law.

Obviously though due to term limits, an election has to be held before they expire. Bored college professors like to speculate what would happen if the prior cycles congress and presidency expired without a replacement. Things have probably gone to hell if this would occur though, so it may be irrelevant. IMO though it basically would mean a full federal government shutdown, and the States would have to pick up the slack while whatever incident caused things to seize up is resolved.

he#s right to be sceptical about mail voting but he's gonna lose the election no matter what so delaying doesn't really accomplish anything
He probably has a good chance of winning. Just look around at all the anti maskers and Karens. Plus if I'm Putin I would rather have MAGA clown shooting himself in the foot every few days in office than a senile fool who will let congress run government competently.

That tweet is about to get ratio'd.

Either he is having one of those I regret posting this tweet moments like he told the guy from Barstool.

Or he just wants to distract the media from Portland.

Uhh that's impossible, I was told that election fraud only happens in third world shitholes and countries that don't practice Capitalism.

Go away, CCP

This whole pandemic is your country's fault. Xi Jinping is a dictator who looks like Winnie the Pooh, the Uighurs are being actively subject to genocide in the here and now, COVID-19 happened because Chinese hipsters think that bat meat is trendy and exotic, most of your farmlands are flooded right now, the Three Gorges Dam is in danger of bursting, Mao Zedong is burning in Hell alongside Lenin and Stalin, your own social credit score isn't getting any higher, and Naomi Wu still won't touch your dick.

Despite the habitual cope from TDS-sufferers, Trump is not stupid. He couldn't be as successful as he is, and his opponents as unsuccessful as they are, if he were.

He knows this isn't going to happen. He knows what kind of Pavlovian reaction it will simulate from the lügenpresse. What's the effect/purpose of saying this?
