Depending where in canada, it's not so bad. You can buy 10 acres of land just outside the city for under 100k. Also, if he kept getting paid in USD, that would make him bank here. Depends where you move. I personally love the cold and the winter, but there are places like BC where it might snow in the morning, then be spring again in the afternoon. Cost of living is pretty low depending on where you go though. I have family that retired in their 50s because they just live simple and away from the big cities.
