I genuinely think the attorneys didn't know this was gonna happen. Sargon is such a beta male joke that you'd think the powers that be would be salivating at the chance to humble him for some free woke points. Akilah's wins the worst lawyer award. Her initial complaint admitted that the work she was suing over was fair use, and was critical in getting the suite dismissed early on.
The dog bite lawyer was at least so bad he couldn't inflict that type of self damage.

The question is whether SLAPP sanctions are dischargeable in bankruptcy. Judgments for willful torts aren't, i.e. if you negligently ran someone over with your car the judgment would be dischargeable but if you deliberately did it you're still on the hook. As an example, O.J. Simpson couldn't discharge his wrongful death judgment in bankruptcy (although he was able to make it very difficult to collect).
I don't know whether the issue has been decided. I also don't think it would be a strict rule, because it might be possible to file a SLAPP suit negligently rather than maliciously, especially if you had bad lawyers, which Hughes obviously did.
The federal standard does not require subjective bad faith, just objective frivolousness. If the Maddox lolsuit judge (who replaced the excellent Judge Charles Ramos) applied any standard at all, it was subjective and he may have just decided Landau was too obviously a fucking retard to be malicious, an incorrect decision but whatever.

I can't imagine that the plaintiff demanding the defendant pay $48k to settle the lawsuit after the court had already indicated that it pretty strongly favored the defendant helped any.
