As I've said before, I think this is all to lay the groundwork for a fundraiser to pay off what he owes for the taxes (for real this time... unless it goes to the honeymoon), so that he can come through the bankruptcy and tax sagas without having to pay a dime of his own money - it was all over and above his 'standard' tips income, because Phil should not have to be an adult and pay what he owes.

Question to my american kiwi friends: assuming Phil is just now starting to save money for retirement, how long would you say it'd take for him to be able to retire?

As I ask this, I realize that I can't picture Phil saving up even 20% of his monthly income. And a person in his situation (38 years old, married and no savings) should probably save at least 50% of his income if he wants to retire before his seventies.

Jesus, just now am I realizing how screwed Phil is. The more he insists on being a full-time streamer, the more fucked he will be.

That's what caused a lot of tractors, me included, to pivot from just laughing at him failing at video games. A few years ago he completely went into this "corpse mode" for the vast majority of the games he played, with the old Phil it was different because you had him bitching at any game he played 80% of the time, you had rage, controller slams, failing to navigate menus, shitty sex and "Howard Stern" race jokes etc. There was something entertaining happening every minute.
You sometimes do have some playthroughs fall through the cracks where he legitimately gets angry, like Donkey Kong 64, but most of the time it's just exactly what you described, shitty gameplay with dead air all the time. That's how DSP killed TIHYDP, not by actually engaging and kahpyright striking and suing the creators of them as he would have liked, but by "outlasting" them like he outlasts everything else - he's so god damn boring now that there's nothing funny to salvage for a TIHYDP video.

However, in doing so he just made us pivot from just laughing at his shitty gameplay to laughing at how much of a dysfunctional piece of shit he is.

I would say that there's a number of things that's killed the TIHYDP movement.

First is his fans that constantly hold his hands during the more problematic parts of most games. They'll do research for him to help him through the tough part of games, and that cuts down on the salt by quite a bit.

Second is his game selection. Most of the games he plays nowadays are all rather easy single player games and RPGs, where most of the "challenge" can be brute forced by levelling or just random guessing. There are few moments where he gets stuck and demands help from his viewerbase, such as in Resident Evil 2.

Third is how he plays the games. Right now, he plays these games through the safest manner possible. Using broken builds and even cheesing through save scumming to get past difficult parts. Only when that fails do we get our salt moment. He plays his games really safe, although he generally doesn't play on easy mode. And he does his research on his games so he isn't caught unaware of any difficulty spikes.

Finally, he likes to keep strict control on his gameplay experiences. He fixes the "Player's Choice" poll so that the games he wants to play always seem to "win", even if by executive decision. He hasn't played a multiplayer game on stream outside of Street Fighter. Even with Street Fighter, he "bans" opponents by not playing them in lobbies.

It isn't just one thing that's caused the downfall of TIHYDP, but it's a number of things. The biggest one of all, though, would be his control of his gameplay experiences. He plays it way too safe for there to be a TIHYDP.

With an Invadervie or a pokimane at least you are getting some nice scenery. Granted its a bum deal and you can get far FAR more cheaper and with women who look just as good if not better at dedicated cam whore and porn sites. But its better than looking at phil's greasy pockmarked face all day.

One thing I will give phil paypigs over simps though is while they do serve to bring down the level of quality in the internet community, they are too far gone to have as much of a negative effect on society as simps who are far more numerous.

He makes a spectacle of himself in all the wrong ways, he completely lacks self-awareness and his life is on a constant, gradual downward trajectory due to circumstances entirely of his own making and he refuses, daily, to do anything about it.

Just like every other cow on the site.

ETA: people are very divided on here about how much they hate DSP, if at all. I think the closest you'll get to just about all the regulars here agreeing is that he's a sideshow worth gawking at. Further, as far as cows go, he seems to have a comparatively low amount of cultural penetration. He doesn't have near the notoriety as someone like Chris-chan; if he did he'd have been cancelled by now. Many people may know his name or the high points of what he's infamous for, but hardly anyone actually cares about him.
