I think it's a combination of crossed synapses and overexposure from media (feet shots are common, even if it's to do something like establish a character by panning upwards from the ground). Add to that the internet and how it's full of degenerates, and you've basically got your answer.

From what I know, it works only on personal page (profile, gallery, etc.), everywhere else it's still same old hide tool.
