You seem to be fundamentally misunderstanding that the Feds have the right to protect their property and prosecute those who damage it under Federal law. The President, whoever it is, can be polite and non interventionist and let local authorities handle it if they wish, but he's gotta have faith that local authorities will. So far all the protesters the PPB have arrested have been released with no charges. If Portland won't actually do anything except remove rowdies for the night who immediately go back, rejoin the mob, and do it again, it's not fascism to use your legal authority and jurisdiction to "go after" protesters, not for protesting, but trying to set the building on fire.

It's like, I can have a "no stealing" rule for my kids, but, if the cops catch them shoplifting, I have no authority to demand they let them go and allow me full control over the punishment, else they're just fascist kidnappers.... after all, I'M THE PARENT, THE STATE DOESN'T CONTROL MY KIDS!
