I know it’s still manipulation and still munchausens, but that kid is so young. She is doing every possible thing available in her power to express her needs... gender confusion, eating disorder, self harm, ect. This is a classic teenage girl story. I guess what worries me most is the engagement. Both of those people could use some emotional stability before getting together. That seems doomed to fail.

Eating disorders and self-harm might be “classic teenage girl story” but malingering, gender crises, LARPing DID, severe mental illness, and e-begging definitely aren’t. How many teenage girls do you know that beg for a wheelchair and feeding tube?

The engagement is a big nope from me. Drexel’s dogs should not be anywhere near Jaye or their super speshul aggressive bitework baby “service dog” for one. Plus, two people with BPD (the one thing I know they aren’t faking) should not be in a relationship if they’re that unstable. Get those kids therapy (individual and couple’s) and maybe they stand a chance.

Could just be me, but I think it’s fucking hilarious that 5+ years of munching didn’t get them anything diagnosed other than fibromyalgia and GERD. Can’t even put in the effort for a mysterious seizure disorder?

Correct me if i'm wrong here, but as far as I recall, it's not possible to have multiple personality disorders simultaneously (STPD, BPD and DPD.). Some of the things most of these munchies diagnose themselves with are mutually exclusive.

STPD is normally characterised by avoidance and flat affect, while the other two disorders are the opposite.

They often have lots of dx that are mutually exclusive. It's probably due to them not actually having or being actually dx with those conditions (or for some dx by llmd or other quacks)--it is often part of what flags them to us and how they end up here.

Unfortunately, unless it's a case of abuse, the best they can really do is to try to direct the person in need of help towards resources in the community. In all actuality, no one can force an adult to do anything against their will, they have to want it, even if they are barely functioning in society. That pesky "freedom of choice and self-governance" gets in the way of helping a lot of people that could truly benefit the most from it.
Then there's issues with Power of Attorney, who is in control of the person's care... complicated shit.
APS might not put a person on the bright path to total independence, but it could be the difference between either being a bagger at the grocery store and living in a group home or being stuck in an abusive situation forever or being homeless and at the mercy of the streets.

There isn't enough funding for it most of the time anyway, so .

Yup, i dont know as much about physical illness but it always makes me cringe when people start listing mental health diagnoses and you can tell they just picked the most "severe" ones out of the DSM, not realizing that a lot of them arent diagnosed together because one is part of the other, thus invalidating one of the diagnoses (MDD and Bipolar disorder) or the two together are a separate diagnosis (Bipolar + Schizophrenia = Schizoaffective disorder). A lot of people either do it because they're playing Diagnosis Pokemon, or because they're straight up too stupid to realize that diagnoses dont pile up over the years, that just because someone diagnosed you with something 10 years ago doesnt mean you still have it today.

While technically possible, each PD is almost an archetype of a certain type of person. And so it doesn't make much sense to have more than one. Like dependent and borderline.... If you have image instability and push people away... You'd just get rid of the dependent diagnosis no matter how many other boxes they ticked. Image instability plus relationship turmoil equals borderline. No need to keep a dependent diagnosis there unless it helps further understand the patient or problem.

And then of course there are mutually exclusive PDs. Schizoid literally cannot pair with dependent or borderline because the main feature is lack of interest in human connection.

I had a golden, and in our time together I did obedience trials to the point where my dog was awarded CDX (companion dog excellent, not an easy title to achieve), did the tests and training necessary to become a therapy dog who could go on hospital/nursing home visits. and I taught her search and retrieval beyond what was needed for her CDX. That thing, search and retrieval, are what goldens are born and bred to do. Basically, we did all the things together, including show handling and basic agility. Goldens are amazing dogs who are so versitile. They're gentle so they're great with kids and frail people, they're extremely eager to please so they'll work for you without food rewards and they're incredibly sensitive and intelligent so they pick up on tasks quickly.

All these traits make them brilliant candidates as service dogs. Their gentleness and sensitivity, the ability to search and retrieve, the eagerness to please and work. You NEED that in a service dog. However, goldens are NOT up to the task of pulling a person's weight. I'm sure most people here know by now they're prone to hip dysplasia and therefore need their hip scores checked before they perform legit service work (or breeding), but even goldens with good hip scores are not designed to pull weight, it's just not what they were built to do and you can cause dysplasia even in good, solid dogs if you get them to haul your weight. I notice that most munchies who want their goldens to do this are overweight (in fact I think every munchie I've seen who wants this behavior was overweight) and they are going to fuck. up. those. dogs.

I was a part of the GR club of my state for my dog's entire life and I saw about 7 goldens who had to either be rehomed to people with the means to pay exorbitant vet bills or put to sleep because they'd been misused as service dogs. Back then there weren't a whole lot of service goldens so that was a very alarming number. It makes me so sad to see these dogs (half of whom haven't been hip score checked to begin with) being forced to do tasks that will break their bodies. All they want is praise and love and you're handing them a life sentence of suffering, or if you're merciful enough, a death sentence handed out way too young.

The day I had to have my girl put to sleep her limbs just gave out. She couldn't stand, she couldn't sit, she couldn't scoot. Her limbs were in total paralysis. She was STILL wagging her tail when I was with her, right up until she passed. They will never stop loving and trusting their human, so they're perfect abuse victims. When I see munchies trying to train huskies or other similar dogs I kind of think 'yeah good luck with that' because they're great puppers but they don't have the right qualities for service and it worries me they'll wind up being dumped. With the goldens I just see them being crippled and meeting an awful fate because they'll do the work even if it kills them.
