Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I'mma say this unbiasedly as someone who loves Cabba as a character & considers him better in dub. Same (to a certain extent) for Bakugo. In fact, I'm so unbiased, that I would've said the same if it was Vic

He's retarded.
Several days ago, Disney reported a quarterly loss of roughly $5 billion this year, their first quarterly loss since 2001. Japan has practically barricaded themselves from the rest of the world because of COVID, preventing newer shows from being made or licensed. And Crunchyroll is apparently up for sale for a $1 billion. To speak little of hundreds of conventions being cancelled this year. But the anime industry is just doing fine.

So yeah, he's retarded.

If the Vic situation never existed then these VA's would still be hated cause they're such assholes
I mean, I agree with his take. Just because something is easy for you to steal/pirate doesn't mean you're entitled to it.

Maybe arguing morality with your fans isn't a big-brained move, though.

I wonder if he got the required license to use the GIF of that Dragonball character.

Ah, so he’s an asshole in real life, just like his character. Good to know.

My thoughts on this KissAnime situation: It was the only site I used for watching anime, because I refuse to pay the cucks at Funimation and Crunchyroll any money. Another reason is because it had stuff that you couldn’t find on any of those sites, and in high quality, too. What other site has classic obscurities such as “California Crisis” or “Gosenzosama Banbanzai”?

The sad irony is that I do understand and even agree with his views on piracy; if a company already licensed that show, then it's really not fair or lawful to pirate it somewhere else for free.

But why do you think there has been more piracy that ever since 2019? Answer: because the VA's acted like assholes, alienated their customers and pissed off their main source of income. So when Clifford Chapin is whining about websites "profiting from other people's hard work", it's because the fans decided to vote with their wallets by saying, "Fuck you, I ain't giving you a cent for being an asshole". It's like these morons are afraid to answer why they aren't making money, because if they look at the mirror, they'd get it.

More people are pirating and torrenting now cause of Funi and Crunchy doing shit in dubs/subs in shows, they're also tired of having to subscribe to 30 different "services" for different shows and not having any they actually want to see. I just wish Crunchroll and Funi and Sony would die. Or Japan to just cut off America all together, they don't need the American market to be successful at all.

Did Kissanime offer subs, dubs, or both? I'm trying to figure out why the Dumbination suckups are celebrating its demise, besides them being scum. It's not like it's gonna earn them money.

Both. Didn't have the dub of the one obscure anime movie I wanted to see ever uploaded but it had a pretty vast archive of shit.

The Japanese anime industry is doing fine, not so sure about the North American ones, ol' King Explosion Murder.
"The anime industry is healthier today than it was yesterday". Tell that to Crunchyroll, who are in the midst of being potentially sold. I can't imagine your company doing much better.
Any chance the industry just crashes, burns, and dies? I get the feeling that once someone/something gets through a major crisis, I can just look at future crises and say "they'll survive pretty much anything".
It seems everything boils down to a clique bragging about how many hipster points they have. I mean, wasn't the thing of ANN that a lot of their writers were stuck in the late 90s/early 2000s?

The same vas crying about kissanime are usually the biggest proponents for socialism.... A typical dvd release is usually 30/50 dollars minimum. Nobody isn't going to pay that much for a shit quality dvd like funi done last year for dragon ball's anniversary dvd.

Do anime vas even make money off the dvds? Like you guys don't get money on merchandise/royalites.

No they don't. They get paid for their lines and that's it unless they do conventions.

EDIT: So kiss-anime now exists. Really makes a person think

Maybe not, but licensing is easy money, and that's why they're in this business in the first place. I think it will take far grander fuck-ups for these companies to start turning down the easy yen. I mean, of the fans smart enough to actually know or care about Funi's fuck-ups, do they think that what Funi has done has hurt, say, the Dragonball brand more broadly?

Yeah, I mean $283k is pocket change, really. A rounding error to the average American… What fucking idiocy from Emmett.

I've said before that I don't think Ron is poor. But I don't think he's so rich that he wouldn't feel the sting of a quarter-million-dollar loss either.
