Absolutely nothing about the Twitter trending tab is organic. It's not in any way indicative of what people are talking about, but rather what Twitter wants you to talk about. I've personally seen hashtags that had hundreds of thousands of interactions completely vanish off of the trending tab right in the middle of the "frenzy", and then I've seen hashtags or events--since Twitter apparently curates news in general on there now-- rocket to the #1 spot with... Maybe a few hundred retweets. A thousand, if they're really lucky.

6,000 comments, 28,000 retweets, 26,000 likes, 2.2 million views, but what's in the trending tab?
