Does France just have more lax views on this kind of stuff? I know they let Polanski win an award at their Oscars last year. Even in America, with people like Dan Schneider and countless other pedos and sex-pests in Hollywood, that shit would not fly at all. Is French culture just more accepting of rape and pedophilia or is it just that the entertainment industry over there has more leeway?

As a fan of French media, it's more what's considered "harmless" or not, I think. America's sensibilities towards violence versus sexual content respectively are basically the inverse of French (and a lot of European) ones, where violence is seen as more morally harmful than suggestive content.

It would be interesting to see what their reaction is to this, especially the hamhanded way this was marketed in the USA.

Also here's something else a French creator made today, so please remember it's more what Netflix is buying into than what media exists in France.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I believe the pedo stuff has been largely kept under wraps and you had to be a pedo to know where to look for that sort of stuff. Even those who do know don't immediately associate Epstein with other big names, they just know he was a big, bad, scary pedophile or something and he died.

I know corona is ongoing atm but next time you're hanging out with normal friends who don't spend hours on the internet unless they have to or it's watching movies, ask them about this sort of stuff. The issue is, in France, if you have sex with a 11 year old, it doesn't necessarily count as rape. They assume in the law, 11 year olds can give informed consent. It's why Polanski ran for France when the hammer came down.

The fact that this is even a thing is frightening is because if minors are considered to have that much agency. Whats to stop a unscrupulous parent letting their child become a prostitute or porn star? We already know there are such types of parents in the Hollywood system, hearing of the drug addled 20 somethings who are nervous wrecks and unable to form decent human relationships after their parents threw them to the wolves. Normalizing and legalizing such things would just open the floodgates.
