Some are evil, they stay close to the position which they consider the most powerful, others.... are just brainwashed. I've talked to people who seemed completely reasonable people, then when you bring up certain subjects, it's like the entire personality you were talking to a few minutes ago just disappears.

The French are no longer quite as loud about promoting Polanski though.
They used to enjoy rubbing it in the rest of the worlds face that they wouldn't extradite him. French high society always stressed that he'd only committed 'Statutory Rape' . Anyone that pointed out that he'd tricked the mother of a 12 year old girl into leaving him alone with her and then proceeded to drug and sodomise her was ignored.
He flounced out of this years César Awards in February, because for the very first time in 40 years he faced public protests.
His last film (and it will be his last film) 'an officer and a spy' was financed by the French state. It's kind of funny because, the book was extremely successful, and he wanted the film to be a English language production funded by US money, however after weinstein no British or US company would touch him and he had to go back to the French state for money. Which meant a french language production, smaller budget, and no chance of the international hit he was obviously craving.
Incidentally some critics are trying to claim that an 'Officer and A Spy' is some masterpiece, which is bullshit. It's a glorified TV movie., most of it's shot in doors like a 60's TV play. It's obvious they spent the budget on crowd scenes and costume designs but even then they don't really work. Polanski is such a fucking boomer that instead of using CGI to create crowds that historically were tens of thousands large, he tries to do it with camera angles.
The book it's based on is brilliant, not just because of the writing but the way Harris manages to use his characters to explain something that was hideously complicated. Polanski wasn't able to do that, the film is a confusing mess.
It would be interesting to know how Cuties ended up on Netflix. Netflix have their own French operation producing decent content. However I suspect this was some California based pedo apologist that made the decision.
